🏆 Proud Moment for KSCSTE!

The EIACP PC Hub at KSCSTE has secured the 3rd position nationally for its outstanding performance during 2025–26.

📢 One-Day Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) & Patent Filing Successfully Conducted

The Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) successfully organised a One-Day Workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) & Patent Filing” on 12 March 2026 at KSCSTE, Sasthra Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram.

The workshop was jointly organised by the Intellectual Property Rights Information Centre – Kerala and the SC & ST Cell, KSCSTE, with the objective of strengthening awareness on intellectual property protection, patent filing procedures, and legal aspects of IPR among Faculty members, PhD scholars, and postgraduate students.

The programme was inaugurated by Prof. A. Sabu, Member Secretary, KSCSTE, and the welcome address was delivered by Dr. P. Harinarayanan, Chief Scientist, KSCSTE and Principal Investigator, SC & ST Cell.

The workshop featured expert sessions by:
🔹 Dr. Kavitha Chalakkal, Assistant Professor, Inter University Centre for IPR Studies, CUSAT
🔹 Dr. Meera Venugopal, Partner–Patent, Krishna & Saurastri Associates LLP, Chennai
🔹 Adv. Manju A.B, Associate Partner, Altacit Global, Kochi
🔹 Chaithanya P.C, Project Scientist-I, Patent Information Centre – Kerala, KSCSTE

Participants engaged in interactive sessions covering the introduction to IPR, the patentability of inventions, patent filing procedures, legal issues related to IPR, and the basics of patent searching and drafting.

The programme concluded with an engaging discussion session and valedictory function.

A consultative meeting of experts to develop a State-level Plan of Action to addrcess the impacts of climate change on Kerala’s ocean and coastal ecosystems was held on 10 March 2026 at 3:00 PM at the CM’s Conference Hall, Secretariat, Thiruvananthapuram. The meeting, coordinated by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), brought together experts to deliberate on issues such as sea-level rise, coastal erosion, ocean warming, and their impacts on marine biodiversity and coastal livelihoods. The consultation is expected to guide science-based mitigation and adaptation strategies for the sustainable management of Kerala’s coastal and marine resources.

Day 2 Highlights – SparkHer

Day 2 of SparkHer – Catalyzing Women-led Startups focused on design thinking and funding opportunities for women entrepreneurs, equipping women researchers with perspectives on shaping ideas into viable ventures.
The program concluded with a wrap-up session, encouraging participants to continue collaboration, innovation, and the journey towards building women-led startups.

Celebrating Women’s Day in an impactful way at SparkHer – Catalyzing Women-led Startups.
The two-day boot camp organised by KSCSTE in partnership with KSUM and the H&R Block brings women researchers together to explore the journey from research to entrepreneurship.

Day 1 featured the inaugural session and insightful talks by Meena Thomas, Director, Agappe Diagnostics, and Anu Yamuna Joseph, MD, Primordia Lifesciences, along with other speakers and resource persons who shared perspectives on translating research into innovation, identifying market needs, and building ventures. The hands-on Business Model Canvas session sparked startup ideas among participants.
A strong start to the journey from lab to startup. 🚀

Help Shape the Future of Biotechnology in Kerala

The Kerala Biotechnology Commission (KBC) under the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) has released the Draft Kerala Biotechnology Policy 2026 for public consultation.

This policy aims to strengthen Kerala’s biotechnology ecosystem by promoting innovation, translational research, industry partnerships, entrepreneurship, and emerging areas such as genomics, synthetic biology, marine biotechnology, and bio-manufacturing.

We invite scientists, researchers, startups, industry leaders, academia, and other stakeholders to review the draft policy and share your valuable suggestions.

Your insights will play an important role in shaping the future direction of biotechnology development in the State.
