100TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF YURI BONDAREV
100th birth anniversary of famous Soviet/ Russian writer and screenplay writer Yuri Bondarev was celebrated under the auspices of the Russian House in Trivandrum. Writer and translator Mr Mangad Ratnakaran was the Chief Guest. In his speech, Mr Ratnakaran said that Yuri Bondarev was a writer who wrote to highlight the pride of his country. “Even at school, he and his friends kept a handwritten literary magazine. He published his first poems and short stories in those magazines. His novel "Hot Snow" was published in 1970. He conceived this book in Austria at a literary conference. There, Bondarev met two Germans. Their conversation led him to write this novel. Bondarev's front-line stories will remain classic. There is a purity and clarity in them that the writer has not achieved anymore. Like his contemporaries. It's not just about the theme that burns through the soul but also about the literary take-off. Bondarev is still remembered for the movie LIBERATION, which he co-authored,” said Mr Ratnakaran. The chief guest spoke about the contemporary Russian Cinema.
