“Disasters don’t begin with fire, they begin with overlooked flaws.”

The ICI Student Chapter GECBH presents the latest edition of Collapse Chronicles. ✨

In this edition, we revisit the Plasco Building Collapse, which occurred in Iran on January 19, 2017. Inadequate fireproofing and aging structural systems left the building vulnerable, allowing intense heat to weaken its core. During firefighting efforts, localized failures rapidly progressed into a total structural collapse. The loss of courageous firefighters highlighted serious lapses in safety compliance and the urgent need for effective retrofitting.

Let every structure we build carry the responsibility to protect lives💫

“Engineering moves forward when barriers are broken and minds are free to innovate.”

ICI Student Chapter GECBH presents Legacy Makers, celebrating Mary Jackson (1921–2005) — a pioneering engineer who rose to become NASA’s first Black female engineer. Through her work in aerodynamics, wind tunnel testing, and structural analysis, she contributed to advancements in flight and engineering science.

Beyond her technical achievements, Jackson championed equality and opened doors for future generations, proving that true progress in engineering lies not only in innovation, but also in inclusion and opportunity.🌟

“Difficult roads leads to destination.”🌌

ICI Student Chapter GECBH is here with the latest edition of Brique Blog series. 💫

The Britannia Bridge is a vital two-tier road and rail bridge in North Wales, connecting the mainland to the Isle of Anglesey across the Menai Strait. Originally designed by Robert Stephenson in 1850 as an innovative wrought-iron tubular bridge, it was rebuilt with steel arches after a 1970 fire, now carrying the A*5 road on top and a railway below.

Life is ours to be spent, not to be saved.✨

“Engineering becomes timeless when strength is shaped with vision.”

ICI Student Chapter GECBH presents Legacy Makers, celebrating Julia Morgan (1872–1957) — a trailblazing engineer and architect who redefined structural design through innovation and resilience. As a pioneer in the use of reinforced concrete, especially in earthquake-prone regions, she combined technical precision with architectural elegance in over 700 projects, including the iconic Hearst Castle.

Morgan’s legacy stands as a testament to how engineering excellence and creative vision can come together to shape structures that endure both time and nature.🌟

“Structures are built not just with concrete and steel, but with responsibility and respect for life.”

ICI Student Chapter GECBH presents the latest Collapse Chronicles. ✨

In this edition, we delve into the L’Ambiance Plaza collapse on April 23, 1987, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Within just five seconds, the 16‑story residential tower under construction crumbled, claiming 28 lives. Built using the lift‑slab method, the project failed due to malfunctioning lifting jacks and improperly secured wedge‑bolt assemblies, as investigations later revealed.

This tragedy reminds us that engineering must uphold not just innovation, but an uncompromising commitment to safety. 🌟

“Engineering drives progress by connecting people, places, and possibilities.”

ICI Student Chapter GECBH presents Legacy Makers, celebrating Robert Stephenson (1803–1859) — a pioneer of railway engineering during the Industrial Revolution. Through landmark projects like the Britannia Bridge and the London and Birmingham Railway, Stephenson transformed transportation and strengthened the backbone of modern industry.

His visionary work in railway infrastructure and bridge design connected cities, accelerated trade, and set enduring standards for civil engineering innovation.🌟
