CORONA OPPORTUNITIES FOR KERALA
GROUND REALITIES
1. Corona Pandemic is going to continue in phases and waves for at least 2 years
2. A vaccine is expected only by 2 years
3. Kerala is connected to the whole world (of the 28 lakh NRIs about 10 lakh are from Kerala) and hence Kerala will have to continue isolation and quarantine procedures till the Pandemic subsides worldwide and a vaccine comes into existence.
4. The present state of isolation, quarantine and lockdown would cripple the economic activity.
5. Kerala has successfully controlled the spread of the virus within the state by giving accommodation and food and has set up necessary infrastructure to deal with spread of virus.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR KERALA
1. The Corona Virus has very high infectivity but very low mortality especially in the age group of 20 to 50 years of age
2. Kerala has the necessary infrastructure and manpower to isolate and maintain and treat healthy adult volunteers between the ages of 25 to 40 who can be inoculated with the virus, and isolated and monitored and their health maintained till they become virus free in about 28 days time.
3. These inoculated adults can be released into the society freely for economic activity and would have the advantage of immunity against Corona Virus in a COVID stricken world.
4. Antibodies from these individuals can be used to treat high risk patients.
5. Gives scientific community the opportunity to conduct viral studies, develop vaccines and gives preparedness for future viral pandemics.

Dear Colleagues
The previous month was a month of successes.
First, we succeeded in winning the Senate Election from the Constituency of Teachers of Government Medical Colleges where Dr Joby John from Government Medical College Thiruvananthapuram won as the first one to achieve the quota of votes.
Second, we succeeded again in winning the Senate Election from the Constituency of Registered Medical Practitioners of Modern Medicine where Dr Murali CP from Government Medical College Thrissur won, again by achieving the quota of votes.
Thus, we have become the only organisation to have two members in the KUHS senate who have won by completing the quota of votes.
This is a moment of celebration as KGMCTA has just one member, and KMPGTA has one member who won in the reservation seat without acquiring the necessary quota of votes.
This is also a time for rejuvenated action.
December is the month of our MEMBERSHIP campaign. All Units please complete the membership campaign and renew the membership of those who have already become members and use the positive atmosphere to get more new members also.
We are also faced with issues of
1. Retaining SDO status
2. Pay Revision
3. Special Rules
Please give your opinion and suggestions regarding these issues so that the leadership would be able to compile it and present on 11 December 2015, Friday to the DME and Health Secretary
Once again congratulations to all member of KGMFA for our success in the First election to the KUHS senate.
