Dr. Jones Memorial Trust

Dr.Jones Memorial Trust was formed in 2010 on the 100th birth anniversary of Dr.S.Jones, who was the first Director of Polio-Home established in 1974 at LMS Compound, Thiruvananthapuram, for the rehabilitation of Polio affected children. Over the years, around 450 polio affected children from various parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu were admitted in this institution and after their rehabilitation, they are working in various fields in the society.

The initiative to form Dr.Jones Memorial Trust was taken by the alumni of the Polio-Home and its well wishers. The office bearers are all differently- abled and former residents of polio-home. As the proverb says” Only a blind person knows the worthiness of the eyes”.

In spite of this unfortunate sufferings, he continued in that position till his retirement, owing to his sheer determination, and will power and by the grace of almighty. He had a longing to do something to the polio affected children after retirement. Meanwhile, CSI (Church of South India) was pondering over starting a Home for orphans and destitutes, funded by a charitable organization based in the then West Germany. When the church authorities approached him after his retirement, to head the Home, he politely promised to become the director if the home was for Polio affected children. Reposing full faith on him, the church agreed to his conditions and he became the first director of Polio-Home. His inspirational guidance and dedication had led this institution to great heights. The life of all the polio affected children admitted in to this home changed forever and they all went on to lead meaningful lives.
