FAKE NEWS CLARIFICATION

It has come to the notice of West Garo Hills District Police that a video is being circulated on social media platforms by an NGO called ADIL from Williamnagar, claiming to be related to a local incident.

It is to be informed to all general public and concerned citizen, that the said video does not pertain to any part of the region. The video appears to have been originally broadcast by a Bangladesh-based news channel, namely Jamuna TV, and is being wrongly projected in a different context.

Further, it is also to be informed that there is also a place named Phulbari in Bangladesh. Such similarity in place names has been deliberately or mistakenly used to mislead the public.

Therefore, the video currently being circulated is misleading and falsely attributed.

Furthermore, the general public and all concerned are hereby advised not to believe or share such unverified contents.
All citizens are requested to rely only on official sources of information and maintain peace and harmony in the region. Strict action shall be taken as per relevant sections of law against those found spreading rumours or fake news.

FAKE NEWS ALERT

It has come to the notice of West Garo Hills District Police that a message is being circulated on social media by the Facebook user Clebath Ch Sangma claiming that a house in Chibinang, Chandigri, West Garo Hills District has been burnt by Non-Tribals and calling upon people to gather and confront.

In this regard, it is hereby clarified that the said information is false, misleading, and intended to create unrest and disturb public peace in the district. As per the ground inputs, there is no confirmed incident that has taken place in the area as being claimed in the circulated message.

The general public and all concerned citizens are hereby strongly advised not to believe or forward such unverified information. Any attempt to spread rumours, incite violence, or disturb law & order in the district will be dealt with strictly as per relevant section (s) of law.

West Garo Hills District Police appeals to all citizens to remain calm, maintain peace, and verify facts from official sources before sharing any information on social media platforms etc.

PRESS RELEASE

It is hereby informed to the general public and all concerned that 2 (two) separate incidents occurred on 19.03.2026 under Hallidayganj PS and Phulbari PS respectively. In this regard, the following clarifications are issued to avoid any misunderstanding or spread of misinformation:

1. Incident under Hallidayganj PS:
A written FIR was received from Shri Abdul Wadud Saha of Village Khopati Part-III, Assam, regarding the death of his brother, Late Abdul Akher Shah (45 yrs). As per the report, the deceased had come to Hatsinghimari for official work and later went to his residence at Kasharipara under Hallidayganj PS. Subsequently, he was found dead inside his house with multiple injuries. A case has been registered in this connection and investigation is in progress to ascertain the facts and identify the persons involved.

2. Incident under Phulbari PS:
A fire broke out in a clothing shop at Kalithan, Puskunipara near Chibinang, which later spread to a tailor shop and a nearby SBI CSP outlet, reportedly due to a suspected short circuit. The Fire & Emergency Services responded promptly and managed to control the fire in time, preventing it from spreading to nearby shops. As per the preliminary report from the Station Officer, Fire & Emergency Service, Phulbari the cause of the fire is due to short circuit.

It is hereby clarified that both the above incidents are isolated in nature and have no connection whatsoever with the ongoing law & order situation arising out of the recent communal disturbances in the district.

West Garo Hills District Police appeals to the public not to link such incidents with communal issues or spread unverified information.

PRESS RELEASE

It has come to the notice of the West Garo Hills District Police that an image is being circulated on social media, particularly on Facebook, showing a senior citizen of Tura who is also a member of an NGO being handcuffed and escorted by police. It is to be informed that there is no such arrest of any senior citizen by West Garo Hills District Police.

In this regard, it is hereby clarified that the said image is AI-generated and completely fake. It does not depict any real incident and has been circulated with malafide intention to mislead the public and further escalate the ongoing law & order issues in the district.

The West Garo Hills District Police appeals to the general public and all concerned not to believe or forward such unverified information and to verify the authenticity of any contents, images or videos before circulating or sharing the same on social media.

Furthermore, the general public is also requested to extend their cooperation and share any information relating to such fake and misinformation being circulated on social media promptly at the nearest Police Station, Out Post, Beat House, or the Police Control Room (PCR), Tura, through the following mobile numbers: +918837423053, +917005530510, +919089199064.

PRESS RELEASE

It is hereby informed to the general public that on 16.03.2026, the West Garo Hills District Police, during routine naka checking at Aramile, intercepted a number of vehicles carrying several persons.

During thorough checking and search of these vehicles, the police team recovered various lethal weapons including machetes, hammers, catapults, and other items which were suspected to be intended for use during the ongoing communal conflicts in the district.

The suspected items have been confiscated. All the persons found in the vehicles were detained for interrogation and later released. During interrogation, they stated that they were proceeding towards the plain belt area upon the instigation of ACHIK NGO group. The District Police is also examining the possible motive and any larger conspiracy behind such movement through other routes and areas in the district.

The West Garo Hills District Police is maintaining strict vigil throughout the district, and naka checking has been intensified at all vulnerable points to prevent any untoward incident.

Furthermore, the general public is also hereby requested to extend their cooperation and share any information related to such activities or any suspicious activities that may disrupt the law & order in the district at the nearest Police Station, Out Post, Beat House, or the Police Control Room (PCR), Tura, through the following mobile numbers: +918837423053, +917005530510, +919089199064.

PRESS RELEASE

It is hereby informed to the general public that a Facebook video post titled “Breaking news: Garo Hills ni obosta jatna namanina kam kagipa dilgipako indake dakjok. GARO HILLS NI MANDERANG MAIKO DAKGEN.” is widely circulated on social media.

In this connection, it is clarified that the house search was conducted strictly as per the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS). The search was led by senior police officer, under proper videography and in the presence of independent witnesses, following all legal procedures.

Further, it is also to be informed herein that there was no vandalism done by the search team to the property and personal belongings inside or outside the house. The search was conducted in presence of the independent witnesses and also, during the search, the family members were present and accompanied the police officers and personnel throughout the search process.

The said video post appears to have been circulated with malafide intention to misled the people and spread false information against the Police Department. The general public and all concerned are therefore advised not to be misled by such misleading or incomplete information being circulated on social media.

Further, if any person or organization intends to verify or view the official video recording of the search, they may approach the District Police through proper channel, and the same can be examined to verify the facts.
