🌱 From Assessment to Action: A New Beginning for 110 Musahar Children 💛

A simple field visit has transformed into a movement of hope.

Following Ms. Aparna Singh's needs assessment on 28 May 2026, Jan Mitra Nyas, with the generous support of Jiv Daya Foundation (USA), launched the Pre-School Nutrition and Education Initiative on 21 July 2026 across four Musahar villages in Varanasi.

Today, 110 children (6 months–5 years) are receiving:
🥛 Daily nutritious milk prepared from Amul Spray milk powder
🍪 Healthy snacks
📚 Early childhood education and joyful learning activities
🎒 School bags and educational kits for every child
👩‍👧 Community support through mothers, Anganwadi workers, and village volunteers

This initiative is helping children grow healthier, learn with confidence, and prepare for a brighter future.

🍟🥤 Is Unhealthy Food Becoming a Human Rights Issue?

For nearly 4 years, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has been pursuing a complaint that raises a critical question:

❓ Are rising cases of diabetes, obesity, and other non-communicable diseases linked to the unchecked promotion of unhealthy foods?

📌 NHRC Case No.: 4227/90/0/2021
📌 Diary No.: 15413/IN/2021
📌 Complainants: Shruti Nagvanshi & Shirin Shabana Khan

Despite repeated notices, NHRC is still awaiting crucial information from FSSAI regarding expert committee findings and action taken on concerns related to unhealthy food consumption and its impact on youth, women, and children.

⚠️ India now has an estimated 11.7 crore adults living with diabetes. The crisis is increasingly affecting children and young people.

The issue is not just about food choices—it is about:
✔ Right to Health
✔ Child Protection
✔ Consumer Rights
✔ Food Labelling
✔ Corporate Accountability
✔ Public Health Justice

When children are exposed to products high in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats without adequate warnings, the debate moves beyond nutrition and enters the realm of human rights.

🚭 Building a To***co-Free India Requires Public Health Champions

On World No To***co Day, PVCHR highlights the urgent need to address the growing burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, and chronic respiratory illnesses linked to to***co use. To***co control is not only a public health priority but also a matter of human rights, social justice, and health equity.

As Dr. Lenin Raghuvanshi reminds us:

“Every public opinion is not policy. For that, we need champions.”

PVCHR Co-founder Shruti Nagvanshi emphasizes that stronger to***co taxation, prevention programs, and investment in healthcare can save lives and protect future generations. The fight against to***co requires collective action from policymakers, healthcare professionals, civil society, and citizens.

The article explores how public health champions can transform awareness into policy and why NCD prevention must be at the center of India's development agenda.

I am happy to share that Kashi by Lenin Raghuvanshi, Chandra Mishra, and Shruti Nagvanshi is now available on Amazon in paperback edition.

Kashi is not merely a book about a city. It is a people’s narrative of one of the world’s oldest living civilizations — where Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Sikh, and Islamic traditions have interacted for centuries.

The book explores the spiritual depth, plural culture, and hidden struggles of Kashi through the lives of weavers, Dalits, widows, sanitation workers, women, and marginalized communities who continue to sustain the soul of the city despite invisibility and exclusion.

It reflects on the teachings of Kabir, Ravidas, Mahadev, Premchand, and Bismillah Khan while also examining how communalism, inequality, and commercialization threaten the inclusive spirit of Kashi today.

This work is both a celebration and a critical reflection — an attempt to understand Kashi beyond mythology, through dignity, justice, memory, and shared humanity.

A small सरकारी आदेश… but a big step for dignity, health, and justice.

In the brick kilns of Varanasi, Musahar women have long worked without recognition, without protection, and without even the basic right to care for their children. A recent directive from PHC Pindra changes that narrative—by recognizing breastfeeding rights, maternal health, and child survival as essential, even in informal workplaces.

This is more than administration. It is about visibility, rights, and the possibility of systemic change.

From global commitments on child health to action on the ground, this moment shows what is possible when policy listens to lived realities.

Together in Struggle, Together in Hope: A Life of Partnership, Justice, and the Moral Imperative of Social Responsibility

Honoured at the TOI National CSR Summit 2026 in the distinguished presence of the Hon’ble Vice-President of India, this moment was not just recognition of work — but a reflection of decades of shared struggle, partnership, and commitment to justice.

From our journey through Jan Mitra Nyas and PVCHR, to grassroots work for marginalized communities, women’s empowerment, and human dignity — this recognition reaffirms our belief that social transformation must be rooted in compassion, accountability, and collective responsibility.

Receiving the honour together on our marriage anniversary made it deeply personal — a celebration of partnership in life and in the pursuit of justice.

Grateful to all who walk this path with us. The journey continues.

Viksit Bharat begins with Human Dignity 🌱

At Lakhania Dari, Mirzapur, the PVCHR team came together for renewal after resistance—reminding ourselves that development is meaningful only when it protects people, nature, and democracy.

Side by side, Shruti Nagvanshi and Lenin Raghuvanshi stand as co-founders and lifelong companions in the struggle for justice—showing that movements endure not through power, but through trust, solidarity, and moral courage.

In an age of climate crisis and shrinking civic spaces, Lakhania Dari became a living lesson:
✨ There can be no Viksit Bharat without human rights.
There can be no development without dignity.
There can be no democracy without justice.

From grassroots action since 1996, PVCHR continues to work for a Viksit Bharat that is:
✔️ democratically vibrant
✔️ socially inclusive
✔️ ecologically sustainable
✔️ grounded in the rule of law
