Is the EMI fixed through the period of the loan?

By default, the EMI (equated monthly instalment) is fixed through the tenure of the loan. However, it would also depend on whether the loan is a fixed rate loan or variable rate loan. In the case of fixed rate loan, the EMI does remain fixed through the tenure of the home loan. However, in the case of variable rate loans, the EMI can change if there is a significant movement in the interest rates; either on the upside or on the downside. Normally, when the rate changes, the bank gives two options. You can either reduce or increase the EMI or you can adjust the tenure accordingly. The choice is yours.
