JMI's Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research, Professor M. Amarjeet Singh from Manipur receives a research project from ICSSR

The Indian Council of Social Science Research, Ministry of Education, New Delhi has awarded Prof. M. Amarjeet Singh, Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research, Jamia Millia Islamia, a research project and seminar grant.

The research project titled A study on the performance and public trust in autonomous district councils in Assam, Mizoram and Tripura: With a focus on advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047 is aimed at critically examining the performance of the autonomous district councils in development of areas inhabited by the tribal population with a special focus on imparting primary education, building road infrastructure and delivery of health services, and the associated challenges. If the existing councils can help spur growth in the relatively poorer areas inhabited by the tribal population, it will have an impact on development. As India aims to achieve Viksit Bharat by 2047, these councils should prioritise on development. This research also intends to examine the public trust in autonomous district councils.

Additionally, the seminar on Reimagining Peace and Development in India’s North East will be held during 27-28 July, 2026. The seminar is aimed at strengthening the unity and security of the country to achieve faster development of north east states. Important themes of the seminar include political development in neighbouring countries, border management, Siliguri corridor, development initiatives and changing dynamics of insurgency, and peace education.
