Consular Office of Japan in Erbil

On 14 January, 2026, a signing ceremony for the Grant Contract was held at the Barzani Charity Foundation Headquarters. The Government of Japan provided financial assistance up to US $90,000 for the Provision of Mammography Equipment at the Breast Center in Erbil Governorate. It was signed by the Minister of the Embassy of Japan in Iraq, Mr. Hiroshi HONJO, and Mr. Karzan Noori, Head of Programs and Planning at Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF).

The project aims at improving the quality of medical treatment to be provided to people of Erbil and the surrounding areas, by providing a mammography machine that ensures the timely care and medical assistance needed at the Breast Center.

This grant comes under the scheme of Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects by the Government of Japan. Grassroots projects aim to bring immediate and direct effects on improving the living condition of Erbil Governorate. The Government of Japan has carried out many such projects throughout Iraq, strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
