Watch a live feed from Fagradalsfjall, facing Geldingadalir, where a fissure eruption began Friday night, March 19, 2021. It's the first active volcano on the Reykjanes Peninsula in 800 years.
The eruption started as lava began to flow from a rupture in the ground in the valley Geldingadalur near the mountain Fagradalsfjall. The location is convenient as the eruption is considered small and there is no threat to any populated areas or critical infrastructure and all air traffic is safe.

An important update regarding travel to Iceland: All those who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will now be allowed to travel to Iceland without being subject to border measures. This includes citizens outside the Schengen area, such as the UK and the USA.
