AVSS 2026 22nd Conference on Advanced Visual and Signal-Based Systems organized by CNR ISASI Lecce - August 31 - September 1-3 2026 - Lecce, Italy

06/09/2026

📺 The E -planet Mediaset (broadcast on Italia1 ) feature dedicated to AVSS 2026 highlights one of the most timely and tangible aspects of the topics addressed during the conference: the contribution that artificial intelligence and advanced analysis systems can make to environmental and territorial protection.

From the prevention and monitoring of environmental disasters to the early detection of wildfires, research is providing increasingly advanced tools to better understand these phenomena, anticipate risks, and support rapid and effective responses.

In the feature, Mimmo Distante and Paolo Spagnolo interviewed by Paola Moscardino, highlighted some of the key achievements reached so far in this field, showing how research and technological innovation can translate into real-world applications for environmental protection and safety.

🎥 An in-depth report that once again demonstrates the strong relevance and real-world impact of the topics at the heart of AVSS 2026.

AVSS 2026 comes to an end.

After receiving the baton from Taiwan 2025, Lecce has had the privilege of hosting an exciting edition of AVSS, filled with high-level scientific contributions, discussion, exchange and, above all, meaningful human connections.

These days have once again shown us that research grows through ideas and innovation, but also through people meeting, sharing experiences and building new connections.

A special thank you goes to the Local Organizing Committee in Lecce, whose teamwork made this edition possible, and to all the Chairs who contributed their expertise and commitment across the different scientific areas. Our thanks also go to all speakers, authors, researchers and participants who joined us from around the world and made AVSS 2026 such a rich and engaging experience.

Now it is time for Lecce to pass the baton once again.

From Taiwan to Lecce, and from Lecce to Macao.

We are delighted to officially hand over AVSS to its next destination: Macao, China, where the community will meet again for the next edition.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey.

Good luck to the next organizing team and see you in Macao!

Day 4 of AVSS 2026 | The final day

The final day of AVSS 2026 featured our last keynote speaker, Stefan Roth, who explored how recent advances in AI are making systems increasingly capable of understanding what happens in images and videos.

These technologies are opening up new possibilities for automation and for the development of increasingly intelligent systems designed to support people in their everyday activities.

Throughout the day, the scientific discussion continued with the oral sessions and the poster exhibition, offering further opportunities to share research, exchange ideas and connect with the international AVSS community.

The poster session also culminated in the Best Paper Award, recognizing one of the outstanding contributions presented during the conference.

A final day of presentations, discussions, recognition and scientific exchange, bringing four intense days of AVSS 2026 in Lecce to a close.

AVSS 2026 | Day 3

The third day of AVSS 2026 continued at Castello Carlo V in Lecce, with another full programme of scientific exchange and discussion.

Today’s keynote speaker, Petia Radeva from the University of Barcelona, highlighted how methodologies for optimizing machine learning models can help reduce computational complexity and make more efficient use of resources, contributing to the development of more efficient AI solutions.

Alongside the oral sessions, the poster sessions also began today, offering researchers another opportunity to present their work, share ideas and discuss new approaches and research perspectives.

Another day of knowledge sharing, scientific dialogue and connections within the international AVSS community.

AVSS 2026 | Day 2

A new setting for the second day of AVSS 2026: today the conference moved to Castello Carlo V, in the heart of Lecce, providing a unique backdrop for another day of scientific exchange.

The programme featured invited talks by Andrea Cavallaro and Danilo Mandic, alongside the contributions presented during the oral sessions.

Andrea Cavallaro explored how AI can jointly understand text and images, opening the way to decisions that are more transparent, interpretable and closer to people’s needs.

Danilo Mandic highlighted the importance of bringing domain knowledge upstream of AI: integrating what we already know into the development process can simplify models, reduce computational time and energy consumption, while making their results more understandable.

Different contributions and perspectives, connected by a common direction: developing AI systems that are not only more capable, but also more efficient, understandable and human-centred.
