DUCA AMERIGO 2021 — A NEW VINTAGE

For Duca Amerigo, the most accomplished of our Super Tuscans, we are now moving to the 2021 vintage.The last bottles of Duca Amerigo 2020 will now be withdrawn from our price list. Like the 2019 vintage before it, 2020 will join our private collection, exclusively available to members of the Villa Cosmiana W**e Club.

But there is no reason for concern; 2021 is an excellent vintage. Slightly fresher than 2020 and, naturally, still showing the character of its youth, it already possesses all the qualities of a great Duca Amerigo.

Its shimmering ruby colour immediately awakens the senses. On the nose, generous aromas of black fruit, ripe blackberry, blueberry and blackcurrant are delicately lifted by hints of to***co and pepper. On the palate, however, it is the elegance of the texture and the remarkable silkiness of its tannins that truly distinguish this vintage. Everything comes together to make Duca Amerigo 2021 a great vintage, promising to become an exceptional one as it develops in the bottle.

The 2026 harvest is finally over!

The Cabernet, Merlot, Sangiovese and Malbec are all safely in the vats — some have already made their way into the barrels.

An exceptional season, which caused us some concern throughout a scorching summer, was finally saved by the rains at the end of August.

The grapes are magnificent: rich in sugar, with aromas that are more concentrated, deeper and more powerful than in previous years.
It is, of course, still too early to make a definitive judgement, but everything points to 2026 being an extraordinary vintage — potentially one of the best of the last ten years.

Once again, nature has reminded us that in w**e, patience is everything.

Here in Tuscany, we call this Bistecca alla Fiorentina — perfectly charred on the outside, beautifully rare and tender within. A magnificent piece of meat, calling for a w**e with structure, depth and balance, such as Villa Cosmiana’s Super Tuscan Duca Amerigo.

A truly wonderful combination — the taste, the aromas and the memory of Tuscany, to be enjoyed at home all year round.

David, our assistant cellar master, busy sorting the Trebbiano grapes harvested this morning.

Trebbiano is Tuscany’s traditional white grape variety — the grape that was grown and made into w**e here for generations, long before Vermentino and Viognier became the fashionable varieties they are today.

At Villa Cosmiana, we have remained faithful to this ancient Tuscan grape. With our Poggio Cosmiano, we continue to produce the traditional Trebbiano of our territory: fresh, delicate and wonderfully refreshing, perfect as an aperitif.

But we have also given Trebbiano a more noble expression, fermenting and ageing it in oak barrels to create Fattoressa Maddalena, a w**e that has been regularly awarded medals at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

From an old Tuscan tradition to a contemporary expression — the same grape, two very different personalities.

Another day of harvest at Villa Cosmiana! After Chardonnay, it’s time for Merlot.

Merlot plays a crucial role at the Villa: it is the foundation of our Super Tuscan Principessa Maria, awarded a Gold Medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2025, and an essential ingredient that enriches our Super Tuscan Duca Amerigo and our Chianti Fattore Crelio.
This year, the berries are small, perfectly ripe and wonderfully concentrated. For all our red w**es, 2026 promises to be a particularly intense and full-bodied vintage. However patience will be required. The w**es need time to develop and reveal their full character. Nothing will be ready before the beginning of 2029, but the wait will be worth it...

Producing a great w**e is a little like creating a family recipe, complete with its preparation secrets and undisclosed ingredients.
This Chardonnay is our little secret ingredient—the final touch that completes our barrel-vinified white w**e, Fattoressa Maddalena, making it an elegant w**e capable of winning medals at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles!
And now, our secret ingredient has reached perfect maturity. We start harvesting this very morning!
A fine vintage is about to begin…
