From Canberra to Milan!

Taglietti: Life in Design opens at Politecnico di Milano on 20 October, bringing the story of influential Italian-Australian architect Enrico Taglietti back to the city where he was born 100 years ago.

Developed by Canberra Museum + Gallery in collaboration with the Taglietti Studio + Archive and The University of Queensland, the exhibition celebrates Enrico's remarkable architectural legacy and the creative partnership he shared with his wife, Franca.

Following presentations in Canberra and Melbourne, the Milan exhibition introduces new research into the Tagliettis' early creative life in Italy, alongside eleven new architectural models developed by Politecnico di Milano students exploring some of Enrico's most significant Australian buildings.

From his architectural studies in Milan to the more than 40 projects that helped shape Canberra, Taglietti's extraordinary career connected two cities on opposite sides of the world.

We're thrilled to see this Canberra story shared with an international audience in such a meaningful setting.

Strong partnerships remain at the heart of maritime security.

The XV Trans-Regional Seapower Symposium in Venice provided a valuable forum to discuss emerging technologies, operational challenges and the enduring importance of trusted international cooperation.

I was pleased to join fellow naval leaders at the XV Trans-Regional Seapower Symposium in Venice, Italy, alongside Italian Chief of the Navy, Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, French Chief of the Navy, Admiral Christophe Cluzel, First Sea Lord, General Sir Gwyn Jenkins, and Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Daryl Caudle, to discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping the future maritime domain.

Discussions focused on innovation, industrial capacity, operational readiness and the evolving role of autonomy and artificial intelligence in maritime operations.

As technology continues to transform the character of warfare, one principle remains unchanged: people remain the decisive capability. Future maritime advantage will depend on our ability to integrate skilled personnel, capable platforms, trusted partnerships and emerging technologies to deliver credible deterrence and operational effect.

Forums such as the Trans-Regional Seapower Symposium provide an important opportunity to strengthen relationships, share perspectives and build the trust and interoperability that underpin maritime security. As always, trust cannot be surged during a crisis; it must be built through sustained partnership.

Today marks the start of the Rugby League World Cup 2026, with Australia’s Kangaroos taking on New Zealand’s Kiwis in the opening match.

Running from 15 October to 15 November 2026, the tournament will bring together the world's best rugby league talent across the men’s, women’s and wheelchair competitions, with matches hosted in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

Australia will be proudly represented by the Australian Kangaroos, Australian Jillaroos and Australian Wheelaroos as they compete on the world stage.

On 3 October at 19:00, the Teatro Tasso in Sorrento will welcome the Australian Strings Association (AUSTA) for a special free concert featuring 36 talented musicians and educators from across Australia.

The performance will showcase a diverse repertoire ranging from Corelli, Bach and Mozart to contemporary works by Australian composers, reflecting both Europe’s rich musical heritage and Australia’s vibrant artistic contribution.

Conducted by Robert McWilliams, with Stephen Chin as concertmaster, the concert forms part of an Australian tour that includes also a stop in Ariccia at the historic Palazzo Chigi on 6 October, at 19:00. 🎟️
