Firefighters respond to a house fire in Trinity yesterday evening.

At 20:30, three fire engines and a water carrier attended the incident in a bedsit attached to a larger property. Neighbours had been alerted by the smoke detector alarming and smoke issuing from a first floor window. Two firefighters entered the property wearing breathing apparatus and extinguished the fire in a small refrigerator.

Islanders are being advised to regularly check their smoke detectors are working and replace any detectors which are more than 10 years old.

As we head into Storm Goretti this evening we will be maintaining our 24/7 emergency call out service. However as you can imagine our priority will be to the safety of our staff.

The boss has taken the phones as will assess any call outs if they come in and if safe for us to attend.
