I give thanks to Atabeyra, Mother Earth.
In the days after the storm, my eucalyptus trees blossomed—
not gently, but in an explosion of red flowers.
For about a week, they fed nearly fifty hummingbirds at once.
Then the bees arrived.
As the blossoms faded, the bees and hummingbirds began rebuilding their homes.
It was beautiful to witness how nature provided food when homes and stores had been destroyed.
These trees had no visible damage, yet they responded—
not to broken branches, but to something else.
Perhaps a shift in pressure.
Perhaps changes in the weather system.
Perhaps an electrical pulse moving through the root networks.
Nature listens in ways we are only beginning to understand.
It is curious. It is intelligent. It is generous.
It reminded me of Australian bushfires—
how heat awakens dormant seed pods that will not open any other way.
Destruction, then nourishment.
Loss, followed by renewal.
Nature knows.

“The earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the Earth.
All things are connected like the blood that unites one family.
Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it.
Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.
The earth is sacred and men and animals are but one part of it.
Treat the earth with respect so that it lasts for centuries to come and is a place of wonder and beauty for our children.”
