بهذه الرؤية، نظم الاتحاد الدولي لحماية الطبيعة ورشة تشاورية لمراجعة إطار شبكة نساء الجنوب لحماية الطبيعة، بمشاركة جمعيات سيدات المجتمع المحلي من الشوبك، البترا، والديسة.

ركزت الورشة على مراجعة واعتماد الأهداف وآليات العمل المقترحة للشبكة، بما يعزز التعاون، وتبادل الخبرات، وتوحيد الجهود بين المبادرات المحلية العاملة في مجالات البيئة، الزراعة، والتكيف مع التغير المناخي.

تأتي هذه الخطوة ضمن خطة الاستدامة لمشروع "تعزيز" مرونة المناطق الهامّة للتنوع الحيوي في الأردن لمواجهة التغير المناخي، المنفذ من الاتحاد الدولي لحماية الطبيعة والمموّل من دائرة الشؤون الدولية الكندية.

“An active and influential community-based environmental network that brings together local women’s community associations and supportive initiatives, contributing to nature conservation and sustainable environmental and community development in Southern Jordan.”

Guided by this vision, IUCN organized the Validation Workshop for the South Women for Nature Conservation Network, with the participation of local women’s community-based organizations from Shoubak, Petra, and Al-Deeseh.

The workshop focused on reviewing and validating the network’s proposed objectives and operational framework, strengthening collaboration, knowledge exchange, and collective action among local initiatives working in environment, agriculture, and climate resilience.

This marks an important step toward establishing a sustainable platform that strengthens the role of women and local communities in nature conservation as part of IUCN’s project “Enhancing Climate Resilience for Biodiversity Hotspots in Jordan” funded by Canada’s International Development – Global Affairs Canada.

Wadi El-Hitan in Egypt has been successfully re-listed on the IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas, reaffirming its global recognition as a well-managed protected area delivering effective conservation outcomes.

First listed in 2018, the site has now renewed its Green List status, reflecting continued progress in effective management, good governance, and long-term commitment to conservation excellence by the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) and the Wadi El-Hitan team.

Through the GEF/UNEP-funded project “Effective Management of Wadi El-Rayan and Lake Qarun Protected Areas,” implemented by IUCN ROWA in collaboration with EEAA, efforts were made to strengthen the management capacity of Fayoum’s protected areas. This included building the capacity of protected area staff on the IUCN Green List Standard, supporting the review and update of the Wadi El-Hitan management plan, and enhancing alignment with IUCN Green List requirements, helping position the site and its team to achieve this important re-listing milestone.

Congratulations to the EEAA team, local communities, and all partners whose dedication and collaboration made this achievement possible.

IUCN Regional Office for West Asia met with the Jordan River Foundation (JRF) team, in the presence of Regional Director Dr. Hany El Shaer and Regional Councillor Eng. Khaled Al Marafi, to discuss potential areas of collaboration.

The meeting reflected a shared commitment to supporting local communities, strengthening sustainable livelihoods, and advancing the sustainable management of natural resources.

اختُتمت في القصيم-المملكة العربية السعودية أعمال دورة "مسح وتحليل الغطاء النباتي"، والتي نظمها المركز الوطني لتنمية الغطاء النباتي ومكافحة التصحر، بالتعاون مع الاتحاد الدولي لحماية الطبيعة لغرب آسيا، شركة تلاد للاستشارات البيئية و جامعة الملك سعود، ضمن مشروع "تقديم الدراسات والإشراف على المناطق الرعوية"، بتنفيذ تدريب حقلي هدف إلى إثراء الجوانب العملية للمشاركين، حيث قام المشاركون بـ:
• تطبيق تقنيات جمع العينات في الميدان
• تنفيذ قياسات وتحليل بيانات الغطاء النباتي
• ربط النتائج بإعداد خطط إدارة رعوية واقعية و فعالة

عزز هذا النهج التكاملي القدرات الفنية للمشاركين وتمكينهم من تطبيق أفضل الممارسات العلمية في تنظيم الرعي، بما يسهم في تحقيق التوازن بين استخدام الموارد الرعوية واستدامتها. كما تهدف إلى رفع قدرات المشاركين وتمكينهم من نقل المعرفة، الامر الذي يعزز الاستدامة المؤسسية لبناء القدرات في المنطقة المستهدفة.

The “Survey and Analysis of Vegetation Cover” training concluded in Al-Qassim, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The training was organized by the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature Regional Office for West Asia, Tilad.env, and King Saud University within the project: “Conducting Studies and Supervision for Grazing Sites in Saudi Arabia.”

The final day featured an intensive field training component aimed at strengthening the practical skills of participants. Activities included:
• Applying field sampling techniques
• Conducting vegetation measurements and data analysis
• Linking results to the development of practical and effective rangeland management plans

This integrated approach enhanced participants’ technical capacities and enabled them to apply scientific best practices in grazing management, contributing to a balanced approach between the use and sustainability of rangeland resources.

It also supports long-term capacity development by empowering participants to transfer knowledge, thereby strengthening institutional sustainability and capacity-building efforts in the targeted areas.

ضمن جهود تعزيز الإدارة المستدامة للمراعي في المملكة العربية السعودية، وانسجامًا مع مستهدفات الاستراتيجية الوطنية للبيئة، انطلقت في القصيم، بتاريخ 27 أبريل 2026، أعمال الدورة التدريبية بعنوان "مسح وتحليل الغطاء النباتي"، وذلك ضمن مخرجات مشروع "تقديم الدراسات والإشراف على المناطق الرعوية".

تُنظَّم الدورة من قبل المركز الوطني لتنمية الغطاء النباتي ومكافحة التصحر، بالتعاون مع الاتحاد الدولي لحماية الطبيعة لغرب آسيا، وشركة تلاد للاستشارات البيئية، وجامعة الملك سعود. تهدف الدورة إلى بناء قدرات الكوادر الوطنية في مجال إدارة المراعي.

ركّز اليوم الأول على بناء الأساس العلمي لمنهجيات تقييم الغطاء النباتي، حيث تم تناول:
• مقدمة علمية حول مسوحات الغطاء النباتي
• منهجيات جمع العينات الحقلية
• تقدير مؤشرات مثل: الكثافة، التغطية، التردد، والوفرة
وتسهم هذه المعارف في دعم اتخاذ القرار المبني على الأدلة، وتعزيز كفاءة التخطيط لإدارة المراعي على أسس علمية مستدامة.

As part of efforts to advance sustainable rangeland management in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and in alignment with the National Environment Strategy, the training course “Survey and Analysis of Vegetation Cover” was launched on 27 April 2026 in Al-Qassim, Saudi Arabia, under the project: “Conducting Studies and Supervision of Grazing Sites in Saudi Arabia.”

The training is organized by the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature Regional Office for West Asia, Tilad.env, and King Saud University. The training aims to strengthen national capacities in rangeland management.

The first day focused on establishing scientific foundations for vegetation assessment, covering:
• Introduction to vegetation surveys
• Field sampling methodologies
• Key indicators: density, cover, frequency, and abundance

These components support evidence-based decision-making and strengthen the scientific basis for sustainable rangeland planning.

ضمن جهود تعزيز الإدارة المستدامة للمراعي الطبيعية في المملكة العربية السعودية، نظم المركز الوطني لتنمية الغطاء النباتي ومكافحة التصحر، بالتعاون مع الاتحاد الدولي لحماية الطبيعة لغرب آسيا وشركة تلاد للاستشارات البيئية، ورشة عمل إرشادية بعنوان: "الشراكة المجتمعية في الإدارة المستدامة للمراعي الطبيعية" وذلك في مدينة القصيم بتاريخ 26 أبريل 2026.

تأتي هذه الورشة ضمن مخرجات مشروع "تقديم الدراسات والإشراف على المناطق الرعوية"، الذي يُنفذ في 15 موقعًا رعويًا في مختلف أنحاء المملكة العربية السعودية، دعمًا لتحقيق أهداف الاستراتيجية الوطنية للبيئة، من خلال تطوير وتنفيذ خطط مستدامة لإدارة المراعي. يرتكز المشروع على نهج تشاركي يضع المجتمعات المحلية في صميم عملية التخطيط والإدارة، إدراكًا لدورها الحيوي في حماية وتنمية الموارد الرعوية.

As part of ongoing efforts to promote sustainable rangeland management in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature Regional Office for West Asia and Tilad Environmental Consulting, organized a guidance workshop titled: “Community Partnership in Sustainable Management of Natural Rangelands.” Held in Al-Qassim on 26 April 2026.

This workshop is part of the outputs of the project “Conducting Studies and Supervision for Grazing Sites in Saudi Arabia”, which is being implemented across 15 rangeland sites throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The project contributes to achieving the objectives of the National Environment Strategy through the development and implementation of sustainable grazing management plans. The project adopts a participatory approach that places local communities at the heart of planning and management processes, recognizing their vital role in conserving and developing rangeland resources.
