According to a post on the official page of the Ministry of Health and Women's Rights of São Tomé and Príncipe dated March 11, 2024, talks were held between the Japanese team from JICA, the International Cooperation Agency, and the multi-departmental team of the Ministry of Health and Women's Rights. The meeting took place on March 6 and was a great opportunity to strengthen cooperation and exchange knowledge. It is expected that future partnerships between the two entities will lead to concrete initiatives that will contribute to the improvement of healthcare services, in particular to maternal and infant care and appropriate solid waste management.
The aim of the exchange was to arrange training in the management, maintenance of medical equipment, maternal and child healthcare, and solid waste, all of which are crucial for strengthening the healthcare system and promoting the well-being of the people.
These courses will have a significant impact on the community, improving the quality of the healthcare services offered and efficient management of the available resources.
JICA is the Japanese Government Agency in charge of implementing Official Development Assistance (ODA), that supports the growth and socio-economic stability of developing countries with the aim to contribute to building peace and development of international society. It was established as an Incorporated Administrative Agency under the Incorporated Administrative Agency Act - Japan International Cooperation Agency (Act No. 136, 2002), with the aim to contribute toward the promotion of international cooperation as well as the healthy development of both Japanese and global economies by supporting the socio-economic development, recovery or the economic stability of developing regions.

O encontro entre a equipa japonesa da JICA, Agência Internacional de Cooperação, e a equipa multidepartamental do Ministério da Saúde e Direitos da Mulher que se realizou no passado dia 6 de Março, foi uma oportunidade valiosa para promover a cooperação e o intercâmbio de conhecimentos, e espera-se que esta parceria entre a JICA e o Ministério da Saúde e Direitos da Mulher resulte em iniciativas concretas que contribuam para a melhoria dos serviços de saúde, especialmente no que diz respeito ao cuidado materno e infantil e à gestão adequada de resíduos sólidos

Este encontro teve como objectivo de viabilizar formações na área de gerenciamento e manutenção de equipamentos médicos, saúde materno e infantil, e resíduos sólidos é crucial para fortalecer o sistema de saúde e promover o bem-estar da população.

Estas formações podem resultar em benefícios significativos para a comunidade, melhorando a qualidade dos serviços de saúde prestados e a gestão eficiente dos recursos disponíveis.

A JICA é a Agência do Governo Japonês responsável pela implementação da Assistência Oficial para o Desenvolvimento (ODA), que apoia o crescimento e a estabilidade socioeconómica dos países em desenvolvimento com o objectivo de contribuir para a construção da paz e o desenvolvimento da sociedade internacional. Estabelecida como uma Agência Administrativa Incorporada ao abrigo da Lei da Agência Administrativa Incorporada - Agência de Cooperação Internacional do Japão (Lei No. 136, 2002), que visa contribuir para a promoção da cooperação internacional, bem como para o desenvolvimento saudável da economia japonesa e global, através de apoiar o desenvolvimento socioeconómico, a recuperação ou a estabilidade económica das regiões em desenvolvimento.

According to the publication of the STP-Press newspaper dated March 7th , 2024, Japan signed a contract for the rehabilitation of Kindergarten Caldeiras in Sao Tome. The signing ceremony took place between the Japanese ambassador, Noguchi Shuji, and the Principal of Caldeiras , Ana Maria Correia Morreira. This donation agreement aims to implement the "Caldeiras Kindergarten Rehabilitation Project", which is evaluated at 35,700 euros (around 900,000 dobras).
This accord is part of the bilateral cooperation program called "Donations to local micro-projects that contribute to human security.
The aim of this project is to improve the learning environment for students at this school, improve the working environment for teachers and address the problems associated with the supply of water and electricity.
According to STP Press, the Japanese ambassador, Noguchi Shuji, said that "it is with great satisfaction that we are here for the signing ceremony of the donation contract for the "Caldeiras Kindergarten Rehabilitation Project". He also stressed that they are committed to this project, which is extremely important for the local community, and demonstrated their common desire to promote education and the well-being of children, thus contributing to improving education for the children of São Tomé and Príncipe.

São Tomé and Principe will have a new photovoltaic plant to ensure energy stability

São Tomé and Príncipe will have a new photovoltaic plant to produce 10 megawatts of energy, in a project presented to the public that will cost 60.7 million euros and will be co-financed by the World Bank, the African Development Bank and Japan.

According to the local Government, it will " dramatically change the country's energy sector" by "reducing the cost of electricity" and will contribute to "improving the business environment and attracting foreign direct investment".
