The political battle for the Kakamega ODM chairmanship was not merely a contest of popularity but a calculated operation involving coercion, abduction, and attempted rigging. This effort was orchestrated by former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
Here were his three failed plans:
π£πππ‘ π: π§ππ ππ’ππ-ππ‘ (π ππ¦ππ’π π π¨π‘ππππ§ππ’π‘ & ππ’π‘πππ‘ππ ππ‘π§)
On Sunday, Oparanya prepared his Likuyani palatial home to welcome delegates, and all MPs from Kakamega, under the guise of meeting for breakfast to discuss coffee in Kakamega and other important party matters.
The plan was to call the media on Sunday evening and read resolutions but here is the twist, the only resolution to be read was that the entire leadership of Kakamega County was solidly behind Nabii Nabwera; that the entire county has rejected Governor Barasa.
When Governor Barasa's team uncovered the plot, they moved the delegates to a secure location, forcing Oparanya and his team to abandon this plan.

When threats failed and delegates became unreachable, the strategy escalated to abduction. Oparanya's team organized groups to locate and forcibly take delegates from their homes to the Webuye Satellite Hotel and Nabuyole Waterfall Hotel.
This plan also failed, as majority of the delegates had already been safely moved out of Kakamega County.

With coercion and abduction off the table, the final plan was to manipulate the election itself on Monday morning. Nabii's team arrived at the Iguhu voting centre in Ikolomani with a handful of the abducted delegates and a group of hired goons.
The plan was to proceed with a sham vote. During the announcement of results, the goons would instigate a fracas to create chaos. In the confusion, the compromised Returning Officer, Simbauni Ndombi, would quickly announce Nabii Nabwera as the winner, present him with the certificate, and flee the scene before the legitimacy of the result could be challenged.
The NA Speaker Moses Wetang'ula had compromised security apparatus to facilitate this plan. His interest was to install a pawn as ODM chairman to weaken the party from within for the benefit of his party, FORD-Kenya.
The rigging attempt was thwarted by Mumias West MP Johnson Naica and Likuyani MP Innocent Mugabe, who confronted and chased the Returning Officer away, sending Nabii's team to the drawing board, forcing them to stall the exercise and eventually announce themselves as winners.
In the end, all three plansβconfinement, abduction, and riggingβcollapsed, leading to the legitimate election of Governor Fernandes Barasa.
But the big question is: Why does Oparanya hate Governor Barasa this much!
1. He was calling delegates directly, threatening and asking them to vote for Nabii Nabwera.
2. When his team found a sick delegate in Likuyani, he told them to carry them away in that condition. Infact they disconnected an IV injection!
