Madaraka Day 2026: Central Seme Ward Stands with Kenya in Celebrating Self-Rule
Today, June 1, 2026, Kenyans mark Madaraka Day, the anniversary of June 1, 1963, when Kenya attained internal self-government. It is a day to remember the leaders and citizens who fought for control of our own affairs, and to measure how far we have come in building a nation that serves its people.
In Kisumu County, Central Seme Ward is celebrating with pride and purpose. Hon. Jecton Obure, popularly known as FAW and incoming Member of County Assembly for 2027, has joined residents in marking the day. FAW called on the people of Central Seme to turn the spirit of Madaraka into action by supporting local enterprise, investing in education, and holding leaders accountable for service delivery.
He emphasized that true self-rule is felt when farmers get fair prices, youth access jobs and skills, and families have clean water and reliable healthcare. As communities across the ward gather for the celebrations, FAW urged unity across age and background, saying progress comes when we work together.
Madaraka Day 2026 is a reminder that independence is not only history, it is a daily commitment. For Central Seme Ward, the celebration is both gratitude for the past and a pledge to build a stronger, more prosperous future for all.
