Strengthening Community Engagement and Advancing Development in Muthesya Ward

The County Government of Machakos concluded its development tour of Muthesya Ward with a public engagement forum at Muthesya Market, providing an opportunity to share ideas, review progress and discuss ongoing development projects across the ward.

The forum brought residents together to share their views, raise concerns and contribute to shaping local development priorities. The County Government appreciates the warm reception, candid feedback and valuable contributions from the residents.

The County Government, under the leadership of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, EGH, will continue engaging residents and translating their priorities into meaningful development initiatives that improve livelihoods and enhance service delivery across Machakos County.

Strengthening Healthcare Infrastructure in Muthesya Ward

More than 5,000 residents are set to benefit from improved healthcare services following the ongoing construction of male and female wards at Kathukini Dispensary in Muthesya Ward.

The County Government of Machakos is investing in the expansion of the facility to pave the way for its upgrading to a Level 3 health facility. Once completed, the new wards will strengthen its capacity to provide a wider range of healthcare services closer to the community.

Under the leadership of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, EGH, the County Government remains committed to expanding and improving health infrastructure to enhance access to quality, affordable and reliable healthcare for all residents.

Expanding Access to Clean Water and Supporting Agriculture

More than 1,000 residents across Kikule Sub-location will benefit from improved access to clean and reliable water following the commissioning of the Kikule Market Borehole in Muthesya Ward.

The County Government of Machakos has equipped the borehole and extended water reticulation to three water points, bringing this essential resource closer to households, traders and farmers. The project will also support vegetable farming through improved access to water for irrigation, domestic use and livestock production, enhancing agricultural productivity and livelihoods.

The County Government appreciates Project Maji for its partnership in delivering this project as the administration of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, EGH, continues to advance the vision of “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni.”

Strengthening Food Safety and Agricultural Trade

The County Government of Machakos, through the Department of Agriculture and Food Security, in collaboration with the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) Food Crops Directorate, held a sensitisation meeting on the Cereals and Pulses Code of Practice 2026. The engagement focused on strengthening food safety standards and promoting trade in cereals and pulses.

Speaking during the meeting, Chief Officer for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Moses Wambua, called on AFA to work closely with the County Government to enhance awareness and compliance with the Code. Directors and staff from the Department, alongside other key stakeholders, also participated in the engagement.

The initiative forms part of the County Government's efforts, under the leadership of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, EGH, to promote food safety, support farmers and traders, and strengthen agricultural value chains for improved livelihoods and market access.

Strengthening Leadership and Governance in County Health Facilities

The County Government of Machakos, under the leadership of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, EGH, through the Department of Health, is conducting a three-day induction course for Level 2 and Level 3 Health Facility Management Committees drawn from Machakos, Kangundo, Matungulu, Mavoko, Kathiani and Kalama Sub-Counties.

The training seeks to equip committee members with essential knowledge and skills in leadership, governance, their roles and responsibilities, and the implementation of the Facility Improvement Financing (FIF) Act, 2023. Key areas also include government communication and public relations, preparation of board papers, effective decision-making, meeting management and proper documentation of minutes.

The initiative aims to strengthen accountability, transparency and prudent resource management at the facility level while enhancing community participation in healthcare management. By empowering these committees, the County Government seeks to improve oversight of health facility operations and promote the delivery of quality, accessible and sustainable healthcare services across Machakos County.

The County Government of Machakos held a public engagement forum with residents of Muthesya Sub-location at Manyatta Market, providing an opportunity for the community to share their development priorities and discuss ongoing projects across the ward.

The forum reaffirmed the importance of public participation in shaping development plans and ensuring that community needs inform the implementation of projects.

Improving Rural Connectivity and Market Access for Farmers

The County Government of Machakos has commissioned the grading and murraming of the 8-kilometre Milaani–Kamaimba Road, connecting Milaani Sub-location to neighbouring areas. The improvement will enhance accessibility and ease the movement of people, goods and services.

The road will also support agricultural activities along River Tana, where farmers produce tomatoes, watermelons and maize for local consumption, supply to neighbouring counties and export markets. Improved connectivity will make it easier for farmers to transport their produce, access markets and strengthen food security.

Under the leadership of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, EGH, the County Government continues to invest in rural road infrastructure to improve connectivity, support agricultural production and expand economic opportunities for communities.

Expanding Access to Reliable Water in Ndithini Ward

Improved water access is set to benefit over 2,000 residents following the commissioning of the rehabilitated Murifarm Water Project distribution lines in Ndithini Ward by H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, EGH.

The project includes solarisation, installation of a new motor and pump, and expansion of the water distribution network from 5 kilometres to 7 kilometres, extending coverage to Murifarm, Matema, Mananja and Kasuvilo sub-locations.

The improved water supply will support domestic use, livestock production and small-scale irrigation, enabling farmers to increase agricultural production, strengthen food security and improve household incomes.

The investment advances the Governor’s “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni” agenda through improved water security, agricultural productivity and sustainable livelihoods.

Revitalising Cotton Farming and Empowering Farmers

The County Government of Machakos is stepping up efforts to revive cotton production following the receipt of 300 kilograms of Bt cotton seeds earmarked for distribution to farmers in Mwala, Yatta and Masinga Sub-Counties.

The CECM for Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperatives, Hon. Dr. Joel Nzomo, received the seeds through a partnership involving the County Government, the AFA Fibre Crops Directorate and the State Department for Industry.

Hon. Dr. Nzomo encouraged farmers to embrace cotton farming, noting that improved Bt cotton varieties offer increased resistance to pest infestation and present opportunities for better yields and improved farm incomes.

Also present was the Chief Officer for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Moses Wambua, alongside departmental directors.

The initiative supports H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s administration in strengthening agricultural value chains, empowering farmers and advancing the “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni” agenda.
