The Meru Youth Service (MYS) continues to demonstrate its commitment to serving and protecting our communities and environment.
MYS recruits, led by chief Inspector MYS Peter Paul Musau, alongside other MYS officers, joined forest rangers from Marania Forest Station, Mount Kenya Trust and the Lewa Conservancy ,in a joint operation to contain a forest fire that broke out in Rutundu One Forest.
Working together, the teams tirelessly battled the flames and contained the fire, preventing it from spreading further. Their efforts are a powerful reminder that protecting our environment requires collective responsibility and action.
Our forests are more than just trees. They are vital water catchment areas, homes to diverse wildlife, natural climate regulators and sources of clean air. They protect our rivers, sustain livelihoods and provide essential resources for present and future generations.
As dry conditions continue, MYS urges residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution when in or around forested areas.Avoid starting fires in or near forests, and never leave a fire unattended. What may appear to be a small and harmless flame can quickly turn into a devastating wildfire, destroying forests and wildlife that have taken decades to establish.
Let us all play our part in safeguarding our environment. The forest belongs to all of us, and protecting it is everyone's responsibility.
