Did you know ๐†๐š๐ญ๐ฐ๐ข๐ซ๐ขโ€™๐ฌ story began with a rescue deep in the wild of Nairobi National Park?

Back in 2016, KWS rangers on patrol came across a heart-breaking sight; a young buffalo calf, barely a month old, trapped in thick mud and left behind by her herd, who could not pull her out.

Alone and too weak to survive on her own, she was rescued and brought to the Nairobi Animal Orphanage, where animal keepers stepped in to nurture and care for her.

She was later named ๐†๐š๐ญ๐ฐ๐ข๐ซ๐ข after the daughter of the ranger who rescued her, a lasting reminder of the compassion behind her survival story.

Today, Gatwiri continues to thrive under dedicated care that includes:

โžก๏ธ Lucerne & hay
โžก๏ธ Supplement feeds including comb maize & commercial concentrates
โžก๏ธ Salt licks for nutrition
โžก๏ธ Routine vaccination & disease prevention

On ๐„๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ก ๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ ๐ŸŒ, weโ€™re reminded of our shared responsibility to protect Kenyaโ€™s incredible wildlife.

At the Nairobi Animal Orphanage, our dedicated keepers work around the clock to give rescued, vulnerable young animals; like this giraffe and eland calf, a second chance.

Every bottle of milk, every moment of care, and every step toward rehabilitation brings them closer to where they belong: the wild.

A powerful moment of action at todayโ€™s KRA@30 Stakeholder Engagement Pearl Breakfastโ€”the adoption of a lion cub, now named ๐”๐ฌ๐ก๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฎ.

More than a symbolic gesture, Ushuru represents a shared commitment to conservation and a shift from awareness to action. Through this adoption, the Kenya Revenue Authority joins a growing community of partners actively supporting wildlife protection and care.

This initiative reflects a deeper truth: conservation is a shared responsibility. It is not only about protecting wildlife, but about securing the ecosystems that sustain our economy, our communities, and our future.

We invite YOU to be part of this journey. Karibu, Tutunze Pamoja!

Did you know Bosireโ€™s story began alone in the wild?

He was rescued as a young cub, just 6 months old in 2003, after being found abandoned at Kuku Ranch in the Amboseli community area. With no pride to return to, Bosire found a second chance at life at the Nairobi Animal Orphanage.

Today, at 23 years old, Bosire is one of the oldest lions under our care across both the Nairobi Animal Orphanage and Nairobi Safari Walk - a true symbol of resilience and survival.

Though he sustained an injury to his hind limb early in life - one you can still notice as he walks - Bosire continues to thrive under dedicated care, strength etched into every step he takes.

Each week, he is provided with 60kgs of meat, along with consistent veterinary care to ensure his wellbeing in his golden years.

We invite you to be part of Bosireโ€™s story and help us continue giving him the care he deserves.

Your support goes toward:

โžก๏ธ Lifelong Care: Medical treatments and specialized monitoring for our aging wildlife.

โžก๏ธ Daily Nutrition: Providing the high-quality diet needed to keep Bosire strong.

โžก๏ธ Safe Haven: Maintaining a peaceful habitat where rescued animals like Bosire can thrive.

The Director General of Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Prof. Erustus Kanga held a consultative meeting with the leadership and members of Friends of Nairobi National Park (FoNNaP) at KWS Headquarters to address concerns and strengthen collaboration on the future of Nairobi National Park.

The engagement underscored the Serviceโ€™s commitment to building partnerships anchored on trust, transparency, mutual respect, and a shared vision for conservation. During the meeting, the Service presented the master plan for the proposed upgraded Nairobi Animal Orphanage.

The session provided an opportunity to comprehensively brief a conservation partner on the upgrade and relocation of the facility. It was demonstrated that the current orphanage is overstretched due to increasing numbers of rescued animals, large numbers of visitors, particular school children, and growing demand for conservation education. The proposed new site near Galleriaโ€“Bomas, within a grassland glade, was identified through a rigorous scientific and multi-agency process as the most suitable option. The site construction will not effect any of the parkโ€™s upload forest, and only a minimal number of invasive eucalyptus trees, previous planned for removal, will be cut down. The site offers adequate space, improved accessibility, enhanced animal welfare conditions, and a significantly improved learning environment for visitors.

This initiative represents a critical step in strengthening wildlife care, advancing conservation education, and securing the future of Kenyaโ€™s natural heritage. The upgraded orphanage is expected to enhance rescue and rehabilitation outcomes, improve visitor experience, create over 500 jobs, and reinforce Nairobiโ€™s position as a global conservation hub. The facility will also include parking capacity for up to 1,300 vehicles to support up to 20,000 visitors per day. The Service remains open to constructive engagement with all stakeholders aligned to these objectives, recognizing that successful conservation is built on collaboration, clarity of purpose, and shared responsibility.
