The Retail Trade Association of Kenya (RETRAK), as a Business Membership Organisation (BMO), joined the private sector in submitting a unified position on the Finance Bill 2026 to the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning.
The submission reflects the private sector’s commitment to advocating for policy measures that enhance competitiveness, support business growth, protect jobs, and strengthen sustainable revenue generation for the country.
RETRAK highlighted concerns over the rising compliance costs facing retailers, noting that the increasing tax and regulatory burden continues to place significant pressure on businesses within the retail sector.

Why Retailers & NEMA Are Clashing over Packaging: NEMA vs Retailers 21/05/2026

Environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility β€” and the retail sector fully supports the objectives of EPR.

However, successful implementation requires readiness across the entire value chain.

As retailers move to comply with the Regulations, the conversation now must focus on practical implementation, supplier preparedness, consumer impact, and protecting business continuity.

If not managed carefully, the effects could extend beyond businesses to product availability, pricing, and ultimately the everyday consumer.

The goal must be sustainability and economic stability working together.

The forum brought together industry leaders to discuss practical solutions aimed at safeguarding consumers and addressing the significant economic losses caused by illicit trade.

We appreciate the continued collaboration in strengthening a fair, safe, and sustainable retail sector in Kenya.
