All are Welcome....
To all Mombasa residents.
The department of Lands, Planning and Housing wishes to advise that as part of the county Government effort to enhance the aesthetic beauty of Mombasa and preservation of our heritage, all new constructions starting 1st January 2019 will be required to paint the Egyptian blue and white colours on their buildings. This will be a mandatory condition in the awarding of building permits. The department further takes this opportunity to wish you all a joyous festive season and a rewarding 2019.

Rescue efforts still on-going at the collapsed building in Kaloleni area of Mvita Sub-county. So far four of the five workers who were on site have been rescued and are receiving treatment at Coast General hospital with the foreman still trapped under the debris. The County Government through the department of housing has also evacuated two adjacent buildings to the site for safety of the occupants. Specialised equipment has been brought on site and we expect to reach the floor where the workers is trapped in the next few hours. The department is further investigating the cause of the collapse and any culpable party will be held responsible. We wish to thank the provincial administration, The Kenya Police, Red Cross, St. John's ambulance and all who continue to assist and volunteer on this operation.

Yesterday in the company of the county security team lead by the county commissioner Mr. Evans Achoki and the County police commander Mr. Johnstone Ipara together with the Likoni leadership comprising of Mr. Hamisi Mwalimu and Mr. Ahmed Salam we held a public baraza in shika adabu where we advised residents against the invasion and encroachment onto public land in pungu villa that has been set aside for important public utilities and developments including the sea water desalination plant, solid waste recycling plant, the Marine technical institution among others. We made it clear that as a Government we will not tolerate sacrificing public good that is set to benefit thousands of residents for the interests of a few. The meeting concluded that with immediate effect, The County Government will mark the boundaries for the parcels earmarked for these developments and all those who have encroached should immediately vacate. The County Government is coming up with a resettlement programme and any affected resident is encouraged to get in touch with the department instead of invading public land.
Today was a special day as we welcomed home our own Eric Shikuku winner of double gold medals in the World Masters Series just ended in Spain. At the County Government we acknowledge the importance of work life balance and well rounded employees.
Congratulations Eric na Pongezi sana for making us all proud and putting Mombasa on the World athletics map.

This evening I took time to visit Lamkani and Nguu Tatu villages which has been the subject of recent inhumane forced evictions and destruction of properties. It was disheartening to see women and children out in the cold.
In keeping with the promise of H.E the Governor, the Mombasa County Government will take up this issue with all relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure that such barbaric evictions do not happen again in future as well as seek amicable solutions to the same.
