TUM Marine Rover Scouts – The Few. The Proud.
The End-of-Year Boot Camp brought together TUM Marine Rover Scouts for a meaningful and transformative experience focused on personal growth and service. Under the guidance of the University Guidance and Counselling Services, led by Dr. Soud Tengah, the Scouts participated in an engaging mental health session centered on healthy boundaries and positive relationships among university students, equipping them with essential life skills for academic and social well-being.
The camp also featured the successful completion of several star badge activities, including the First Aid Badge, alongside team building and bonding sessions that strengthened unity, leadership, and cooperation within the crew. In consideration of the concluded rainy season, the planned tree planting activity was rescheduled to April next year, ensuring optimal conditions for environmental impact.
Overall, the boot camp stood as a testament to the Scouts’ commitment to holistic development—mind, body, and service—true to the spirit of The Few. The Proud.

TUM Marine Rover Scouts Capacity Building Camp – Post Event Story
In line with this year’s Scouts theme, “Inspiring Climate Change Resilience,” the TUM Marine Rover Scouts, under the Kenya Scouts Association (KSA) – Mombasa County, successfully hosted a Capacity Building Camp from 26th to 28th September 2025 at the Technical University of Mombasa. The event was organized for the newly inducted Rover Scouts (Year 1, Semester 1, Academic Year 2025/2026) under the Jasiri Progression Scheme.
The camp proved to be a dynamic, engaging, and transformative experience, marking an important milestone in the scouting journey of the novice Rovers. Over the course of three days, participants were introduced to the Jasiri progression pathway and immersed in programs designed to:
Build resilience and capacity in climate change adaptation, leadership, teamwork, and innovation.
Strengthen practical scoutcraft skills, including pioneering, camping, and environmental stewardship.
Foster unity, bonding, and critical thinking through experiential learning and collaborative challenges.
Support the CSA drive for novice Rovers while creating opportunities to work towards the First Aid Star Badge.
True to the essence of Scouting, the program demonstrated how adaptable and responsive Scouting remains to the realities facing young people today. Beyond traditional scouting activities, sessions also touched on broader life challenges such as poverty alleviation, emergency preparedness, conflict resolution, drug abuse prevention, and HIV/AIDS awareness.
The camp embraced the FULLCASH philosophy of Scouting, which ensures that every young person gains:
F – Fun through enjoyable and adventurous experiences.
U – Usefulness by learning skills relevant to daily life and service.
L – Learning opportunities that build both knowledge and wisdom.
L – Leadership qualities that prepare them for future responsibilities.
C – Character, Creativity, Control, and Citizenship as foundations for personal growth.
A – Attitude of positivity, resilience, and responsibility.
S – Skills that enhance self-reliance and innovation.
H – Habits, Hobbies, and Happiness that create balance and fulfillment.
By the close of the weekend, the TUM Marine Rover Scouts had not only built stronger bonds but also acquired tools to actively contribute to sustainable development and community service. The camp reaffirmed Scouting’s role as a movement that nurtures responsible, resilient, and innovative citizens ready to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.
