STRENGTHENING UK - KENYA AVIATION SECURITY COLLABORATION

Today I hosted Ms. Davian Henderson, the Deputy Director, Aviation Security International Operations for discussions centered on deepening collaboration between the UK and Kenya in aviation security.

The UK through head of delegation , Ms. Henderson was appreciative of Kenya’s cooperation and indicated that the meeting was a great opportunity for UK – Kenya relations as it lays ground for high level dialogue between the two countries planned for September 2026.

ASSESSING JKIA READINESS FOR AFRICA FORWARD SUMMIT

Today, I visited Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to assess our general preparedness for the reception of VVIPs and delegates attending the upcoming “Africa–France Partnerships for Innovation & Growth” Summit, themed “Africa Forward, which will take place on 11th and 12th May 2026.

I was particularly keen to review the ongoing refurbishment of the State Pavilion, through which several Heads of State will be received. I am satisfied with the progress and confident that JKIA; its infrastructure, operators, and staff, is fully prepared to host this important summit.
This summit will reflect on Africa’s innovative capacity and the shared commitment of Africa and France to develop common, mutually beneficial solutions rooted in effective multilateralism and the spirit of partnership.

On the sidelines of the 80th Session of UNGA in September 2025, the President of Kenya William Samoei Ruto and President of France issued a Joint Communiqué reaffirming the convening of the Africa Forward Summit at the level of Heads of State & Government (HOSG). This is the first time that the summit will be held outside an franco – phone country, a great honor for Kenya.

4TH APRIL 2026 ADVANCING THE JKIA MODERNISATION AGENDA

Today, I chaired an important engagement session to present the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Integrated Masterplan to stakeholders in the financial sector. In the on - going mission to modernize aviation infrastructure, these dialogues with financial institutions are pivotal as we continue to build a coalition of investors committed to a project that will redefine Kenya’s economic landscape. Among the institutions were Trade and Development Bank Group (TDB) and AFC.

The aviation sector is a cornerstone of our national development, currently contributing 3% of Kenya’s GDP. The modernization of JKIA is not merely an infrastructure upgrade but rather a strategic investment in our country’s future as a premier regional hub.

Present in the meeting was Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Managing Director Mr. Moses Wekesa and officials from the state department and KAA. The journey towards a transformed JKIA continues in earnest, and I am grateful for the collective efforts of our partners and stakeholders who share this commitment.
