Today, Dr. Amit Thakker, Chairperson of Kenya Health Professions Oversight Authority met with the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Bare Duale, to discuss matters concerning the health workforce in Kenya.

The meeting emphasized that regulation of health professionals remains a critical pillar in strengthening Kenya’s health system and ensuring the delivery of quality, ethical, and people-centred healthcare services.

The Health Act, 2017, mandates the Authority to provide oversight function in the training, registration and licensing of all health professionals, and to ensure standards are not compromised. This broad oversight function is key in ensuring a competent, well-regulated, and trusted health workforce in the country.

The Authority committed to supporting strategic interventions that strengthen health workforce to enhance service delivery across Kenya.

The Kenya Health Professions Oversight Authority remains committed to strengthening the regulation and oversight of health training programmes across the country.

Yesterday, the Authority convened a strategic consultative forum at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) with representatives from the various training institutions offering health courses for previously unregulated health professional cadres.

The meeting centred on reinforcing compliance with established regulatory standards, aligning training programmes with approved requirements, and ensuring that graduates are equipped with the necessary skills and competencies to deliver high-quality healthcare services in support of universal health coverage.

By fostering strong collaboration with training institutions, the Authority aims to enhance the credibility of health training programmes, promote excellence in healthcare education, and ultimately improve the overall quality of healthcare for better health outcomes for Kenyans.
