AUDIOBOOK REVIEW ๐ŸŽง:The Whistler by John Grisham
Rating:4/5 ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

What a way to get back to reading fiction than with a wonderful legal thriller๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿฝ.The Whistler is a legal thriller novel by John Grisham published in 2016. The story follows Lacy Stoltz, an investigator for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct, as she investigates a complaint from a mysterious source who claims to know of a corrupt judge who has stolen more money than any other judge in U.S. history. The source, who calls himself the Whistler, provides Stoltz with a series of clues that lead her to a dark and dangerous conspiracy involving Native American gaming, organized crime, and corrupt judges.

The Whistler is a fast-paced and suspenseful novel that explores the dark side of the American judicial system. Grisham's writing is sharp and incisive, and he does not shy away from the ugliness of corruption. The Whistler is a must-read for fans of legal thrillers and anyone who is interested in the fight against corruption.

The Whistler is a powerful and timely novel that raises important questions about the state of the American judicial system and the fight against corruption. It is a must-read for anyone who cares about the future of democracy.

BOOK REVIEW:We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Pages:64
Publisher:Fourth Estate
Rating:5|๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

My first book to start the year 2022.I have always been a Chimamanda stan and this book did not disappoint. We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a modified version of the classic Ted Talk by the same title. If you can't read this book at least watch the Ted Talk. The book advocates for feminism as a means to achieve women's rights. It potrays gender inequality as still rife in society and exists in many ways. One way is through gender stereotyping ,Gender Based Violence(GBV) and Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) etc.The author begins by mentioning Okoloma who was Chimamanda's friend. In one conversation with Okoloma the topic of feminism cropped up and Okoloma was not amused. This clearly elucidates the current picture in society where men view feminism as a form of anti-men discourse. However Chimamanda in this book posits that feminism does not completely challenge the biological roles of each gender but instead is a means to create equal opportunities for both men and women.Put it differently feminism does not exist to push away men and men's rights. The author views feminism as a way of achieving an all inclusive society.

Feminism is a very emotive topic in today's society. For many years I did not regard feminism.I guess, just like any other man, older and today's society moulds men to believe in patriarchy. This perspective for me changed when I joined law school.Through listening to other people's opinion and my own reading my perspective changed. For this reason I believe that laws, institution and cultural stratifications ought to be reformed or/and abolished in totality if they are unjust.

It is important to note that feminism is made up of various types/strands.They include radical feminism, liberal feminism and marxist feminism just to name a few.I challenge you to research on the differences of the aforementioned types of feminism plus those I have not listed here.My final take on feminism:It is slowly but surely it is gaining ground.Even if results are not being seen/felt I believe that younger generations will reap the fruits. Also to achieve systemic change we need to take collective action.

I did realize that I have not yet made an introduction of myself in this page.My name is Gideon Kibet Kitur Ruto. You can find my personal page on .kibet_ .Currently I am on my last semester in law school and that's why I am not active that much here.I started my journey in June 2020 with a view of sharing the books I read.To say I love books is an understatement.I adore & breathe books. It first started in primary school when I would read The Secret Seven by Enid Bltyon,Famous Five by Enid Bltyon and Goosebumps series by R.L.Stine.I would find myself finishing a book in a night and borrowing another the next day(Thanks to that primary school classmate whom I would borrow these books from).I really loved mentally immersing myself in the mysteries in the books and journeying through till they were solved.I also vividly remember the picincs Enid Blyton would describe ๐Ÿคค and George's island in Famous Five.Years later my love for books has never died.Currently I have a bias to non fiction but looking to reading fiction books as the years progress.I do enjoy the community and I am looking forward to sharing more๐Ÿ’•

It goes without saying that I read fewer books this year(2021) as compared to 2020.I must say I had a lot of school work contributed to this. However I made time and read the 5 books listed above.I currently have 3 books that I am also reading.I don't know which unique reading practice you have adopted this year but for me it has been reading several books concurrently.Hope 2022 I will read more books.Have a great New Year 2022๐Ÿ˜Œโค๏ธ.
