The Warehouse Receipt System Council-Kenya delegation today visited the Commodities Division as part of the ongoing Grain Industry Experiential Trade Mission in South Africa, organized by the Eastern Africa Grain Council. The engagement focused on understanding the mechanics of structured commodity trading and its critical role in enhancing price discovery, market transparency, and risk management - key pillars in building a liquid, efficient, and resilient agricultural trade ecosystem in Kenya.

The day also featured a visit to the South African Grain Information Service (SAGIS) to gain insights into grain market data collection, analysis, and dissemination systems that support transparency and informed market participation. In addition, the delegation visited the Southern African Grain Laboratory (SAGL) to learn more about grain testing, grading, and quality assurance processes that support credible commodity trading systems.

Through these engagements, the team is acquiring strategic insights aimed at strengthening the adoption of spot trading within Kenya’s domestic market, while also evaluating the long-term potential for establishing a robust and sustainable futures trading market in the country.
