The positive Impact of KVB Inspections in Kajiado County.

A beautiful story is slowly being written in Kajiado County, ably supported by the CDVS team led by Dr Nazariah Nyaga. The market surveillance survey done at the start of inspections in 2025 indicated that 47% of Agrovets in Kajiado County did not have licenced veterinary practitioners.

That figure has significantly shifted towards positive compliance. In Kajiado West and East subcounties alone, the shift has been phenomenal with 89% of premises now having veterinary practitioners managing the dispensing table. This has translated to more job opportunities for compliant professionals and ease of access of quality services by the farmers.

This is attributed to heightened compliance engagements, Know the Board Sessions, close working relationships with the CDVS team and active surveillance monitoring.

The Board envisages 100% compliance in order to protect human and animal health, to reduce the threat of Antimicrobial Resistance and to assure food of animal origin to the public.

The Board will be holding post inspection feedback sessions to bolster self regulation and to identify and bring into full compliance the few non-compliant practices.

TIMOTHY NDETO MUTISYA based at Wamunyu, Kitui County, faked a practice Licence from the Kenya Veterinary Board not knowing that the Board has invested in digital technology supported by Artificial Intelligence to detect any such falsely uttered documents.

Where as he remains at large with the Agrovet closed down, his arrest will serve as an example to accomplices engaged in such illegal venture. Section 353 of the Penal Code Cap 63 criminalises uttering false documents of the Board and carries a penalty of 3 years in prison without the option of fines.

KVB INSPECTIONS IN MAKUENI COUNTY

Following extensive surveillance, the Board undertook inspections of Veterinary Practices in Makueni County where a number of veterinary practices were geo-mapped for ease of surveillance and enforcement.

Whereas the Board takes note of improved levels of compliance, a number of non-compliant veterinary practices were closed down and unregistered persons arrested.

Further, as part of the quality assurance of internship programme, the Inspectors assessed logbooks of the posted interns and pleased with the supervision of interns in Makueni County.

The Board appreciates the CDVS Makueni County, SCVO's and practitioners who supported the successful inspections.
