Rigathi Gachagua reveals what Ruto told him about Atwoli.

At the same Labour Market forum today, Gachagua recounted the moment he walked into State House after the 2022 Kenya Kwanza victory and found COTU boss Francis Atwoli — who had openly campaigned against Ruto — already there, seemingly at home.

"I asked William Ruto, how come Atwoli is here? He laughed sheepishly and told me, 'Rigathi, you don't seem to understand this country. Every man has a price.'"

Whether you support Gachagua or not, this quote is a window into exactly how Kenyan politics really works behind closed doors. "Every man has a price" — allegedly from the President's own mouth.

Speaking on NTV this week, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino made a stunning admission about the 2020 nightclub shooting that has followed him for six years.

"People say in a working state I should be in jail — I agree I should be in jail… but I have been taking care of DJ Evolve's medical bills. I have spent close to KSh 70 million on his treatment."

Love him or hate him, this is one of the most candid things a sitting MP has ever said publicly about a scandal involving them. The question now is whether accountability through money is enough.

🔶 MEET EDWIN WATENYA SIFUNA — THE MAN, THE LAWYER, THE STORM 🔶

Born on 22nd May 1982 in Kakamega County, Edwin Sifuna came into this world with a plan — even if the world didn't know it yet. His father was a civil servant and his mother a teacher at Moi Primary School in Bungoma, so between the two of them, young Edwin had no excuse not to be brilliant. And brilliant he became.

📚 EDUCATION
He began his schooling at Kakamega Township Primary School before joining Musingu High School, one of Western Kenya's well-known institutions. Not content with just a certificate, he enrolled at the University of Nairobi, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree in 2006, then obtained a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law in 2007. By 2008, he was admitted to the Roll of Advocates. The courtroom had a new sheriff in town.

⚖️ CAREER
Right after admission, he joined Magnate Ventures Limited as Legal Affairs Manager, then served at Mini Group of Companies, before eventually opening his own law firm — E. Sifuna & Associates Advocates in Nairobi. He also became a respected member of the Law Society of Kenya, taking on high-profile cases with the kind of energy that makes opposing lawyers reconsider their career choices.

🗳️ POLITICS
His entry into politics came after voting for the Kenyan Constitution in 2010, but he quickly realised people were frustrating its implementation — especially devolution — and decided enough was enough.

He tried for a parliamentary seat in Kanduyi in 2017 — didn't quite work out — but ODM, clearly recognising talent (or a man who wouldn't take no for an answer), nominated him to contest the Nairobi Senatorial seat, where he garnered 674,056 votes, finishing second to Johnson Sakaja.

Second place was apparently enough to impress because in February 2018 he was appointed Secretary General of ODM, replacing Ababu Namwamba. He then came back in 2022, and this time — he clinched the Nairobi Senatorial seat with 716,876 votes. Lesson learned: try again.

🔥 LINDA MWANANCHI — SIFUNA'S LATEST CHAPTER
In 2026, things got spicy inside ODM. When the party's NEC tried to remove him as Secretary General, Sifuna didn't pack his bags — he packed rally venues instead. Under his leadership, the Linda Mwananchi movement quickly established itself as a magnet for large, energetic crowds, signalling a growing appetite for an alternative political voice. By focusing on bread-and-butter issues such as the cost of living, governance, taxation and social justice, the group struck a chord with ordinary Kenyans. The StarThe Star
Sifuna has been categorical: "We are not leaving ODM. This party belongs to all of us. Baba did not raise cowards." Bold words from a man whose supporters chant "Sisi Ndio Sifuna" at every rally. Even United Opposition spokesperson Mukhisa Kituyi had to admit: "It is impossible to discuss a united opposition without factoring in Edwin Sifuna's Linda Mwananchi — one cannot wish them away."

In short — Edwin Sifuna is the guy who lost a parliamentary seat, got appointed SG, won a Senate seat, got "fired" from the SG position, went to court, won a stay order, and then held rallies from Mombasa to Kisumu. If resilience were a person, it would wear a suit and argue your case in court. 😄
