On day three of the engagements in West Pokot County, the State Department for Diaspora Affairs (SDDA), together with National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), engaged students at Chesta Teachers Training College in Sigor, Pokot Central Constituency.

While addressing the students, the SDDA team outlined safe and regular labour mobility pathways, as well as the mandates of the State Department in championing the protection of the rights, welfare and interests of Kenyans in the diaspora.

Students were additionally enlightened on the programme and other Government's national priorities and initiatives. They were particularly encouraged to take full advantage of opportunities available under across the globe, which open pathways for qualified teachers and education professionals to secure gainful employment abroad through safe and regular channels.

Area Deputy County Commissioner, Mr. Philip Mbuvi, representative from the area MP’s Office, the area MCA, a representative from the State Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises(MSMEs), and a representative from the County Government of West Pokot were present during the session.

The Gov’t has called on the youth seeking employment opportunities abroad to arm themselves with accurate information, the right skills and proper documentation, as part of intensified efforts to promote safe, orderly and regular labour mobility.

Speaking during a diaspora sensitization exercise- , held on the sidelines of the third edition of the Kazi Majuu Football Tournament at Kianjai Primary School in Tigania West, Diaspora Affairs PS, Ms. Roseline K Njogu, said the Gov’t is deliberately taking information on opportunities and services directly to communities so that citizens can pursue jobs abroad safely, responsibly and from an informed position. Amb. Isaiya Kabira, Secretary for Diaspora Investments, Skills and Entrepreneurship, held discussions with Mr. Segeni Ng'ethe- Segeni Ng'ethe, Honorary Consul of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to Kenya, on the Kenya–Bahamas teacher recruitment programme- .

The two sides also reflected on future engagements and partnerships. The meeting reaffirmed Kenya's commitment to safe, orderly and regular labour mobility, as well as to strengthening sustainable pathways for Kenyan professionals seeking opportunities in The Bahamas.

The meeting was attended by Ms. Anne Mruche, Deputy Director, Skills and Expertise Division; Mr. Hiribae; Ms. Mudibo; Ms. Ayaan; Ms. Mlingi; and Ms. Lewinsky Gatwiri of the Office of the Honorary Consul of Kenya to The Bahamas.

The State Department for Diaspora Affairs team continued its sensitization exercise in West Pokot County with an engaging session held on Day 2 of the initiative.

The forum brought together National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), whose grassroots presence is vital in disseminating accurate information to communities about the State Department's mandate and safe labour mobility pathways.

The session, led by Ms. Jennifer Wanami from the Skills and Expertise Division, was graced by the County Commissioner, Mr. David Saruni. Other stakeholders in attendance included representatives from the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority- and .

The engagement sought to strengthen collaboration with NGAO officers, leveraging their community networks to cascade information on the Kazi Majuu programme, including clear, safe and legitimate pathways for securing employment abroad.

Officers were also sensitized on: Welfare and rights of Kenyans in the Diaspora; Savings, investments and remittances; Skills and technology transfer; and Liaison & partnership activities

The initiative remains a key platform for taking diaspora information to the grassroots and ensuring labour migration is safe, orderly and beneficial.
