The TAWE movement, originating from the Western parts of Kenya with Governor Natembeya as the initiator, is gaining momentum as a voice for the marginalized people of Western Kenya. "TAWE," meaning “Tumekataa” in Swahili, reflects the frustration and disillusionment of the populace with long-standing leaders who have failed to deliver tangible benefits. The movement aims to address the grievances of Western Kenyans, who have seen little progress despite decades of political promises.
While the movement's focus on addressing the neglect by political elites is commendable, it currently lacks a clear mandate and inclusion criteria. For TAWE to be effective, it must define its objectives and strategies to assist the people economically and socially. The economic landscape in Kenya is dire, with citizens facing high taxation, poor leadership, and increasing poverty levels. These issues are not unique to Western Kenya but are felt nationwide, making it crucial for the movement to broaden its focus and appeal to a wider audience.
High taxation has burdened Kenyans, stifling economic growth and making basic goods unaffordable for many. The cost of living continues to rise, with the government imposing taxes that many citizens find unbearable. This has led to widespread discontent and calls for reforms. TAWE should advocate for fair taxation policies that do not disproportionately impact the poor and middle class. By addressing this issue, the movement can rally support from all Kenyans who are struggling under the weight of heavy taxes.
Moreover, poor leadership has plagued Kenya, resulting in mismanagement of resources and corruption. This has eroded public trust in government institutions and leaders. TAWE can position itself as a champion of good governance by promoting transparency, accountability, and integrity. By doing so, it can attract support from those who are tired of corruption and mismanagement.
The increase in poverty levels is another critical issue that TAWE must address. Many Kenyans are living below the poverty line, struggling to make ends meet. The movement should develop and promote policies aimed at poverty alleviation, such as job creation, investment in education and healthcare, and support for small businesses. These initiatives would provide tangible benefits to the people, making the movement relevant and impactful.
For TAWE to succeed, it must rise above individual political rivalries and focus on the broader goal of improving the lives of Kenyans. While it is important to hold leaders like Mudavadi and Wamalwa accountable, the movement should not be seen as merely opposing individuals. Instead, it should offer a positive vision for the future, outlining clear steps to economic and social empowerment.
Governor Natembeya must also ensure that the movement does not become overly centered on his persona. By building a broad coalition and fostering inclusive leadership, TAWE can maintain the support of Wamalwa's backers and other key stakeholders. This will ensure that the movement is seen as a collective effort rather than a platform for individual ambition.
In conclusion, the TAWE movement has the potential to be a powerful force for change in Kenya. By clearly defining its mandate and addressing pressing issues like high taxation, poor leadership, and increasing poverty, it can resonate with a broader audience. With a focus on national interests and practical solutions, TAWE can become a beacon of hope for Kenyans seeking a better future.
Note, you cannot outshine your master.

Kenya's business landscape, particularly in Nairobi, is facing significant turbulence due to the heavy tax burden imposed on entrepreneurs and enterprises. The ripple effects are evident: businesses are closing down, companies are downsizing, people are losing jobs, and many are shifting operations to home offices to cut costs. This scenario not only stifles economic growth but also exacerbates unemployment and reduces the overall standard of living.
Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Nairobi are shutting down. High taxes on income, imports, and everyday operational activities have made it unsustainable for these businesses to continue operating. As a result, the business environment has become increasingly hostile, driving many to cease operations entirely.
Larger companies, struggling to maintain profitability, are resorting to downsizing their workforce. This measure is a direct attempt to reduce operational costs but results in increased unemployment rates. The cascading effect of business closures and downsizing has led to a significant rise in unemployment. Skilled and unskilled workers alike are finding themselves without jobs, which reduces their purchasing power and impacts the economy further.
In an effort to minimize expenses, some business owners are moving their operations from commercial spaces to home offices. While this might save on rent and utilities, it often comes with its own set of challenges, such as reduced visibility and accessibility to customers. Additionally, the high tax environment is discouraging both local and foreign investments. Investors seek markets where their returns are maximized, and Kenya’s current tax policies are pushing them to look elsewhere.
As a member of the Nairobi business community, it is crucial to advocate for policies that foster a more conducive business environment. One of the primary solutions is comprehensive tax reform. Advocating for a reduction in tax rates, particularly for SMEs, can alleviate the financial pressure on businesses. This could include lower corporate taxes, reduced VAT rates, and incentives for new businesses. Simplifying the tax code can also reduce compliance costs and administrative burdens.
Establishing a robust platform for ongoing dialogue between the government and the business community is essential. Regular consultations can help align tax policies with the realities of running a business, ensuring that taxation does not stifle economic activity. Implementing targeted support programs for small and medium-sized enterprises can provide much-needed relief. This could include tax holidays for startups, grants, or low-interest loans aimed at helping businesses thrive and grow.
Introducing tax incentives for companies that create jobs can also make a significant impact. For instance, businesses could receive tax credits based on the number of new employees hired, encouraging companies to expand their workforce rather than reduce it. Additionally, encouraging the government to find ways to reduce other operational costs for businesses, such as utility rates, rent controls, and transportation costs, can help alleviate financial strain.
Providing support for businesses transitioning to digital operations is another critical step. This can include grants or subsidies for technology upgrades, training programs for digital skills, and the development of e-commerce platforms. Furthermore, advocating for increased investment in infrastructure that directly benefits businesses, such as better roads, reliable electricity, and high-speed internet, can significantly reduce operational costs and enhance efficiency.
The high tax burden in Kenya is a pressing issue that requires immediate and strategic interventions. By implementing these solutions, the Nairobi business community can work towards creating a more favorable environment for businesses to thrive, ultimately boosting economic growth and improving the livelihoods of Kenyans. It is through collective effort and strategic policymaking that the adverse effects of high taxation can be mitigated.

What Is the Meaning of Dunamis in the Bible?
The Greek word “dunamis,” used in the New Testament, refers to the power, miraculous works, and specific spiritual gifts manifest in individual believers through the Holy Spirit’s anointing.
There are different kinds of strength and power at work in the world today. No one is guaranteed tomorrow, and no matter how powerful, healthy, or strong we think we may be, life regularly reminds us how fragile and frail we are. At times, we often feel helpless and powerless. Christians, however, know that a power beyond themselves exists to guide, equip, and strengthen them in life. It is not the power derived from political influence, earthly wealth, or good health that gives peace and confidence to the believer. It is the treasured strength of divine power and provision that equips Christians for every good deed.
Devine Power.
