Every bird counts. ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒ

On World Migratory Bird Day 2026, we celebrate the remarkable journeys of migratory birds โ€” and the global cooperation needed to protect them.

Each year, thousands of barn swallows and other migratory birds travel between Norway and Kenya, connecting our countries through nature itself. But migratory bird populations are under growing pressure. New 2026 data show that nearly half of all monitored migratory species are in decline, while many face the threat of extinction.

The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), administered by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), helps bring countries together to protect migratory species and their habitats across borders.๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด

As home to one of the UNโ€™s four global headquarters โ€” and the only one in the Global South โ€” Nairobi plays a vital role in international environmental cooperation.๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด

May 8th marks the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Norway from N**i Germany. May 8th is also the United Nations Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation for Those Who Lost Their Lives during the Second World War.

Today we solemnly remember, in gratitude, all those that fought and gave their lives for the freedom and liberaty that we enjoy today.

WWII established the conditions for the creation of the United Nations, designed to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war and to settle all disputes by peaceful means.

Freedom, Peace and Liberty do not come by themselves, they must be worked, fought and defended for every day.๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

Last week, we were honored to welcome Director General of Norwayโ€™s Agency for Development Cooperation ( ), to Nairobi.
During her visit, she engaged with key partners across Kenya, Somalia, and Sudan โ€“ ranging from UN agencies and humanitarian organizations to private sector innovators and youth representatives. From field visits Tiko โ€“ who works to peopleโ€™s access to sexual and reproductive health services through digital solutions and community outreach โ€“ in Kibera with UNFPA to high-level meetings at UNON and discussions on food security, crisis response, and development partnerships, the program highlighted both challenges and opportunities across the region.
A strong focus throughout was collaboration, bringing together public, private, and civil society actors to drive sustainable impact.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to a packed and meaningful visit!๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ด๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฉ
