Centre For Multiparty Democracy
The CMD is a body founded by political parties in Kenya, who are also its members, and registered as a trust early 2004.
Its basic quest is to work with political parties in terms of capacity building. Kenya has a fluid political party landscape within a very open political environment for discussions about reforms. Political parties, however, are challenged to re-invent themselves from the current overly personality oriented parties to become more programmatic oriented parties. Out of cognition of these needs, the parties in CMD came together for a substantial dialogue of this kind.

At a time when Africa’s democratic journey continues to evolve, it is critical for young people to come together and reflect on the progress made while shaping the path ahead. 🌏
Platforms that convene youth across the continent create space not only to take stock of democratic gains, but also to interrogate the challenges that persist—and how best to address them. 🔍
By engaging as co-creators of solutions, young people move beyond participation to actively influencing leadership and governance outcomes, ensuring that democracy is more inclusive, responsive, and reflective of the realities on the ground. 🌿
Dialogue platforms such as the Global Democracy Coalition Africa Forum play a critical role in bringing together diverse stakeholders working on democracy and leadership across the continent.
By convening practitioners, governments, and grassroots actors, these spaces help bridge the gap between policy and practice- creating opportunities for collaboration, mutual learning, and alignment on shared priorities.
At a time when much of the continent is navigating political and civic transitions, such platforms are essential for co-creating homegrown, context-driven solutions that respond to local realities while strengthening democratic systems for the long term.
Democracy remains the ultimate goal for societies transitioning from systems of oppression and exclusion toward ones that truly serve their people. 🥅
It represents more than elections or institutions- it is about dignity, accountability, and the redistribution of power to ensure that every voice matters and every community is represented. 🪫
As countries navigate these transitions, the focus must remain on building systems that are inclusive, responsive, and grounded in the lived realities of citizens, so that democracy is not just an ideal, but a daily experience that delivers justice and opportunity. ⚖️
The Global Democracy Coalition is creating space for actors across the continent to come together- not just to reflect on the state of democracy, but to move forward concrete actions to reclaim it. 🌍
By convening diverse voices from youth and civil society to regional and global partners, these engagements strengthen collective efforts to address shared challenges, rebuild trust, and advance more accountable and inclusive governance systems.
Reclaiming democracy requires more than dialogue; it calls for coordinated action, shared responsibility, and sustained collaboration across borders.
Organizing communities across Africa to engage in open, honest conversation is critical to strengthening democracy on the continent. 🌍
When we create space for dialogue across borders, we begin to see just how interconnected our challenges are- from shrinking civic space to barriers to inclusive participation. These shared realities call for collective understanding and coordinated responses, not isolated efforts.
By bringing communities together to listen, learn, and exchange experiences, we lay the groundwork for solutions that are informed, relevant, and rooted in lived realities, ensuring that democratic progress is both shared and sustainable.
Africa is the youngest continent, yet too often, the voices of young people are heard, but not in the rooms where decisions are made. 🌍
Spaces that bring youth together for dialogue, exchange, and problem-solving are critical. They allow young leaders to co-create practical solutions that can be adapted and cascaded to local communities, ensuring that democratic systems work for everyone, not just a few.
Empowering youth today is about more than participation, it’s about shaping a future where democracy is inclusive, accountable, and responsive to the needs of all communities.
At a moment when democracies around the world are facing unprecedented challenges, advancing inclusive and resilient governance is more urgent than ever. 🌍
The global democratic recession reminds us that no country or community can safeguard democracy alone. Collective action, cross-border dialogue, and shared learning are essential to protect civic space, promote accountability, and ensure that political systems deliver justice and opportunity for all. 🤝
Centering the leadership of youth and women, amplifying marginalized voices, and building strong networks across communities and countries creates the foundation for democracies that are not only resilient, but truly representative and responsive. By working together, we can turn shared challenges into shared solutions and strengthen the democratic promise for generations to come. ✨
