✈️ A potential tragedy was averted aboard a flydubai flight bound for Israel today.

Flight FZ1073, travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv with more than 170 passengers on board, was forced to make an emergency diversion to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, following a serious security incident in the cockpit.

According to Israeli authorities, one of the pilots allegedly attacked the other and attempted to bring down the aircraft. Passengers and crew intervened, helping to subdue the attacker, while other crew members regained control of the aircraft and brought it to safety.

All passengers are safe.

The incident is being investigated by the relevant authorities, including as a suspected terrorist attack.

What could have ended in catastrophe instead became a remarkable story of courage and decisive action in the face of danger.

Israel remains committed to its partnership with the United Arab Emirates and to the shared pursuit of a region defined not by terror and extremism, but by cooperation, security and peace.

🌍 What if development started not with solutions for communities, but solutions built with them?

That was at the heart of “Shifting the Center,” a development forum held in Nairobi and opened by Israel’s Deputy Ambassador, Ariel Arviv, alongside Hon. Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes.

Led by Glocal, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s International Development Programme, the forum brought together practitioners, policymakers and development leaders to learn from locally led African approaches and exchange ideas on community resilience, culture, climate and sustainable development.

The message was clear: meaningful development happens when global knowledge meets local expertise — and when communities are not simply beneficiaries, but partners in shaping the solutions that affect them.

🇮🇱🤝🇰🇪 From Jerusalem to Nairobi, conversations like these are helping strengthen the connections between knowledge, local leadership and sustainable development.

This October, a 10-member delegation from Engineers Without Borders – Tel Aviv University will travel to Tanzania, bringing together technical expertise, education and community engagement.

Their work will include building a 60,000-litre rainwater harvesting system at Kambi Primary School, installing an innovative water filtration system at Qash Primary School, and engaging pupils from several schools in practical water education.

But it’s not just about installing technology. The team will also train local partners in system maintenance, work with RUWASA to explore expansion into more communities, and strengthen partnerships with local authorities and NGOs.
