YEDF CHAIRPERSON HIGHLIGHTS YOUTH EMPOWERMENT SUCCESS ON RADIO GENERATION

Friday, 29th May 2026: YEDF Chairperson Hon. Fatma Bakari Barayan today joined CT Muga and Mung’ala Mbuvi on Radio Generation for an engaging conversation on youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and access to affordable financing for young Kenyans.

During the discussion, the Chairperson highlighted the tremendous impact of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund, noting that YEDF has so far disbursed over Kshs. 15.6 billion to more than 2 million youth across the country.

She outlined the Fund’s wide range of loan products including business start-up loans, expansion loans, asset financing, agribusiness loans, talanta loans for creatives, labour mobility financing and LPO financing aimed at enabling youth to seize emerging economic opportunities.

Hon. Barayan also encouraged beneficiaries to embrace responsible borrowing and timely repayment, emphasizing that loan repayment enables more young people to benefit from the revolving Fund.

The Chairperson further shared inspiring success stories of youth entrepreneurs whose businesses have grown through YEDF support, including enterprises in ICT, agribusiness, transport, retail, creative economy and social enterprise sectors across the country.

She reaffirmed YEDF’s commitment to empowering young people through affordable financing, entrepreneurship development, mentorship and strategic partnerships aimed at creating jobs and transforming livelihoods.

YEDF Leadership Joins President Ruto and Kenyans in PS Fikirini Thanksgiving Ceremony

The leadership of Youth Enterprise Development Fund over the weekend joined hundreds of residents and national leaders in celebrating Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs during a thanksgiving ceremony held in Kilifi County.

The event, hosted at Mnagoi Primary School where the Principal Secretary received his basic education, was attended by President William Ruto alongside other senior government officials, political leaders, community members and guests from across the country. The Youth Enterprise Development Fund delegation was led by Board Chairperson Fatma Barayan and Acting Chief Executive Officer Benedict Atavachi.

Speaking during the event, President Ruto praised PS Fikirini for his dedication, humility and commitment to public service. The President noted that despite rising from humble beginnings, the Principal Secretary has remained selfless and focused on serving the people, describing him as an example of resilience and determination for young Kenyans.

Leaders who spoke at the ceremony commended PS Fikirini for his leadership and contribution to youth empowerment and national development. They encouraged young people to remain focused on education, discipline and hard work as pathways to success.

In his remarks, PS Fikirini expressed gratitude to the Mnagoi community for supporting his education and nurturing his leadership journey. He also paid tribute to the late Raila Odinga for mentoring him and acknowledged President Ruto for entrusting him with the responsibility of serving as Principal Secretary.
