The three day sensitization workshop on drug and substance abuse in Kakamega County hosted by the Ministry of Health concluded today with a
public baraza .
The event brought together stakeholders from the National Government,County Governments, various organisations in drug and substance abuse control and the general public from the Western region.
The forum focused on raising awareness and sensitizing the community about the dangers of drug and substance abuse, with an emphasis on the rising use of novel to***co and ni****ne products.
Statistics revealed high levels of ma*****na and chang'aa abuse in the region, highlighting the urgent need for stronger enforcement, community engagement, and policy interventions.
The Chairperson of the To***co Control Board, Dr. Naomi Shaaban, and the Deputy County Commissioner of Kakamega Central, Mrs. Christine Chacha, graced the occasion.

Day Two of the Drug and Substance Abuse Sensitization Campaign – Kakamega County
The campaign's second day focused on training frontline health workers from Kakamega, Busia, Vihiga, and Bungoma Counties on drug and substance abuse prevention and management. The session covered emerging trends, early detection, intervention strategies, and collaboration with community stakeholders to enhance response efforts.
This initiative aims to equip healthcare providers with the skills needed to support individuals struggling with addiction and strengthen community-based prevention efforts.

The Ministry of Health through the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards is this week hosting a three day stakeholder sensitization workshop on drug and substance abuse in Kakamega County.
The focus is on Public awareness, stakeholder sensitization, and capacity building to combat the rising challenge of drug abuse, including the novel to***co and ni****ne products.
The workshop brings together National government and county officials and participants from relevant agencies

The Chairperson To***co Control Board, Kenya Hon. Dr. Naomi Shaban accompanied by Board directors, senior officials of the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, and the coast region counties are currently addressing participants from the coast region who converged in Kadongo grounds Kisauni, in the ongoing sensitisation campaigns against drugs and substance abuse to***co and ni****ne products included. The Hon. Chairperson urged stakeholders to synergize their efforts in the fight against drugs and substance abuse. She further cautioned the youth on the emerging to***co and ni****ne products noting that they are not safer alternatives to ci******es.
