Mtoto wa nyoka ni?

𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲! 🥳

Did you know? Unlike mammals, reptiles rely on external heat sources to regulate their body temperature. That’s why you’ll often spot them basking in the sun!

Snakes, lizards, turtles and crocodiles have adapted to thrive in diverse habitats, playing important roles in keeping ecosystems healthy.

Across Kenya’s wild landscapes, keep your eyes peeled; you never know which scaly superstar you might spot! 👀

Which reptile would you be most excited to spot in the wild? Tell us in the comments, then plan your park visit and see who you can spot! 👉https://kws.go.ke/parks/

Mashujaa wako kila mahali. 🇰🇪
Some wear uniforms, some carry binoculars, some fly aircraft, some care for wildlife and others work quietly behind the scenes.

This Mashujaa Day, we honour the brave men and women who contributed to Kenya’s struggle for independence and whose courage and sacrifice helped shape the nation we celebrate today.

We also celebrate the people who continue to show up every day to protect Kenya’s wildlife, care for our natural heritage and keep conservation moving forward; from our rangers and veterinary teams to our pilots, researchers, support teams, communities and the visitors who experience, appreciate and help champion our wild spaces.

To every hero, past and present, asante kwa kulinda na kujenga Kenya yetu. 🇰🇪

Happy Mashujaa Day!

Meet Daniel Kanyi, 71, enjoying a day out at Nairobi Safari Walk. 🐾

As we celebrate Mashujaa Day tomorrow, we also take a moment to appreciate the older generation and the role they’ve played in shaping our country.

At KWS, adults aged 70 and above enjoy FREE ENTRY to all parks and reserves under the current conservation fees.

Looking for somewhere to take your parents or grandparents? A day in the wild might be just what they need. ❤️

Happy Mashujaa Week, Kenya! 🇰🇪

Tuko kwa park weekend tukiwangoja kumbe kuna watu wako na other plans? 🤨

The Rift Valley Mobile Veterinary Unit responded to a male eland with a wire snare tightly caught around his neck. The team safely removed the snare and treated the affected area. The good news is that he is expected to recover well.

The eland is Africa’s largest antelope, easily recognised by its impressive size and distinctive spiral-shaped horns. In Kenya, these magnificent animals roam across diverse landscapes, including Nairobi National Park, Aberdare National Park, Lake Elementaita Wildlife Sanctuary, Chyulu Hills National Park and the Tsavo ecosystem.

Wildlife conservation is a shared responsibility. Let’s do our part to protect Kenya’s wildlife and give them a safer future. Report wildlife crime through our 24/7 toll-free line 0800 597 000 or WhatsApp 0726 610 509.

What better way to wrap up Mashujaa Thematic Week than by growing trees for a greener Kenya!

In partnership with the Kenya Forest Service and State Lodge Eldoret, the Kenya Wildlife Service took part in a tree-growing exercise at Eldoret Polytechnic and State Lodge Eldoret reaffirming our shared commitment to conservation and a sustainable future.

Growing trees is a vital step towards increasing Kenya’s tree cover, restoring degraded landscapes, protecting water catchment areas and creating healthier habitats for wildlife.

As the country works towards its national target of growing 15 billion trees by 2032, every seedling counts. Together, we can restore our ecosystems, support biodiversity and build a more climate-resilient Kenya.

Let's celebrate our shujaas and honour their legacy by growing trees today for a greener tomorrow.

Difference ya medical doctor na wildlife vet ni ati mmoja akona patient analia, mwingine akona patient amejaa ngori… lakini kazi lazima ifanywe!

Dr. Mukami Ruoro-Oundo, Senior Veterinary Officer at KWS, has been named 2026 IFAW Wildlife Vet of the Year. 🏆

From treating diverse wildlife including elephants, rhinos, big cats, pangolins - to advancing wildlife veterinary care and supporting more women in the field, her work continues to give wildlife a second chance.

Hawa patients hawasemi “daktari naumwa” but somehow she knows! Some doctors save lives. Some save wildlife. Dr. Mukami does both. 🥳

Congratulations, Dr. Mukami, on this well-deserved recognition!
