The Kenya Wildlife Service Board of Trustees Chairman Hon. Joseph Lagat, who also chairs the Kaptagat Conservation Project, yesterday led the official launch of the 10th Edition of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme (KICP) in Nairobi.
The initiative seeks to restore and enhance the Kaptagat ecosystem through tree planting, habitat preservation, and strengthened ecological resilience, while contributing to the Governmentโs target of planting 15 billion trees by 2032 and supporting sustainable community livelihoods.
Hon. Lagat noted that the initiative will continue working with like-minded partners, communities, and organizations to realize its transformative vision, calling for sustained collaboration from all stakeholders.
Kenya Wildlife Service Director General Prof. Erustus Kanga commended the programme for its efforts in restoring the Kaptagat Forest ecosystem, describing it as a pristine habitat for diverse insects, birds, and wildlife.
He further urged government agencies, conservation partners, communities, institutions, and the private sector to actively support tree planting and ecosystem restoration, emphasizing that environmental conservation remains a shared responsibility critical to securing a greener and more sustainable future for Kenya.

Kenya Wildlife Service hosted celebrated African artists ahead of the Africa Forward le Concert set for 12th May in Nairobi, the grand finale of the Africa Forward 2026 Summit.
The artists began their Kenyan wildlife experience at the Nairobi Safari Walk, getting up close with wildlife in a semi-wild setting, before heading out for a game drive at the iconic Nairobi National Park; the worldโs only wildlife park within a capital city, proving that you donโt have to leave the city to find the wild heart of Africa.
The stellar lineup of artists included our very own Kenyaโs Coster Ojwang, Ugandaโs Jose Chameleone, Tanzaniaโs Abigail Chams, South Africaโs Nomcebo Zikode, Algeriaโs Kader Japonais, Nigeriaโs Yemi Alade, and Franceโs Vegedream.

This Motherโs Day, we celebrate Lucy Nandwa, Customer Experience Officer at Nairobi National Park, for exemplifying compassion, kindness, and selfless service.
A guest who recently visited the park with her twin toddlers shared this heartfelt experience:
"I visited Nairobi National Park with my toddlers (twins) on 3rd this month. They had tantrums and I had only my driver accompanying me. I met a girl called Lucy at the gate and my kids were crying so bad. I was frustrated so much. Lucy asked me to park my car, assisted me to take my girls to the washroom and helped me to diaper change all of them and even helped me to put one to sleep. I tipped her $20 and she refused. She told me, "She canโt trade motherhood with money". May she receive her flowers. I would visit Kenya over and over again because of that gesture."
Lucyโs actions embody the values we proudly uphold at Kenya Wildlife Service, empathy, and genuine care for every guest experience.
Today, we applaud Lucy and all the remarkable women whose compassion and dedication continue to create unforgettable moments and inspire the world every day.
