HAPPY MASHUJAA DAY 2026

Today, we honour the courage, sacrifice and determination of the men and women whose contribution shaped Kenya’s journey to freedom and continues to inspire our nation’s progress.

As we celebrate our heroes, we also recognise the role of every Kenyan in building a stronger, united and prosperous nation. In tourism, we celebrate the people, cultures, heritage and natural treasures that make Kenya a destination of distinction.

May the spirit of our heroes continue to inspire us to serve with commitment, preserve our heritage and create opportunities for generations to come.

Happy Mashujaa Day, Kenya!

Celebrating the Champions of Sustainable Travel!

The 18th Eco Warrior Awards Gala lit up the night at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Westlands in Nairobi, marking a historic milestone as the sector gathered to celebrate Ecotourism Kenya’s 30th Anniversary.

The State Department for Tourism was deeply honored to participate in this landmark event. Representing Principal Secretary Prof. Julius Bitok, Tourism Development Secretary Mr. David Gitonga delivered an inspiring keynote address emphasizing the critical role of innovative financing in green development:

"By connecting viable tourism opportunities with affordable, accessible, and long-term capital, Kenya can build a more competitive, sustainable, and locally anchored tourism sector that drives shared prosperity,"said Gitonga during the event last night.

Under this year's theme, "Honouring Innovations for Responsible Journeys," the gala showcased the incredible synergy between national policy goals and private sector actions. Guests fully embraced the "Elegance of the Wild" dress code, turning out in magnificent gala attire inspired by Kenya’s unique and endangered wildlife.

A massive congratulations to all the visionary innovators, community leaders, and green tourism enterprises who took home awards last night! Your efforts in driving eco-friendly lodging, protecting biodiversity, and empowering local communities are vital to the realization of our national sustainable tourism goals. Together, we are proving that tourism can preserve our natural heritage while uplifting local livelihoods.

Eldoret took tourism to new heights during Kenya Tourism Week 2026, with a hot air balloon experience offering participants a rare perspective of the city and its surrounding landscapes.

Floating above the ground, participants experienced Eldoret beyond the familiar—taking in its expansive scenery while discovering the possibilities of adventure and experiential tourism in the region.

The experience at the University of Eldoret added another dimension to the week’s programme, showcasing how innovative tourism products can complement the region’s rich sporting, cultural and natural attractions.

For PS Amb. (Prof.) Julius K. Bitok, experiences such as these reflect the State Department for Tourism’s focus on expanding Kenya’s tourism offering and encouraging visitors to discover destinations in new and memorable ways.

Eldoret, seen from a different altitude. Kenya, experienced differently.
