Western Kenya Community Driven Development and Flood Mitigation Project

The Project covers five Counties of Western Kenya region: Siaya, Busia, Vihiga, Kakamega and Bungoma.
Empowering communities of men and women to engage in wealth creation activities, lower the incidence of poverty and reduce the vulnerability of the poor to adverse outcomes associated with recurrent flooding. The Project’s Development Objective is to empower local communities to engage in wealth creating activities, lower the incidence of poverty and reduce the vulnerability of the poor to adverse
outcomes associated with recurrent flooding. This Objective will be achieved through three project components namely:
1. Community Driven Development (CDD) that provides for capacity building of communities to plan, manage and implement development activities, support community and youth driven identified and prioritized livelihoods-based micro-projects, promoting activities targeted at addressing the malaria scourge and promoting local level development through supporting investment projects that are beneficial to several communities.
2. Flood Mitigation (FM) through promotion of: catchment management to address degradation in the Nzoia River basin, effective flood plain management, supporting a Flood Early Warning (FEW) System and development of a long term flood management plan for the Nzoia Basin.
3. Implementation Support that provides for support for policy analysis, advocacy, project coordination, community participatory processes and establishment and ex*****on of a monitoring and evaluation system. The project applies the following approaches:

- Communication Strategy,
- Establishment of Local Institutions,
- Social Accountability,
- Synergies,
- Social Inclusion among others
