Today, my office joined fellow Kenyans at Kea Comprehensive School, Nzauni Location, in celebrating Madaraka Day with the Migwani Sub-County DCC, Madam Rukia, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest.

This significant occasion in Kenya’s history reminds us of our nation’s journey toward self-governance and eventual independence.

As we celebrate this day, we reflect on the sacrifices made by our forefathers and freedom fighters who worked tirelessly to secure the rights and freedoms we enjoy. The day also provides an opportunity for Kenyans to unite in patriotism, appreciate the progress our nation has made, and renew our commitment to building a peaceful, prosperous, and united nation for generations to come.

My thoughts and prayers go to the families who lost their beloved daughters in the early morning inferno at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, Nakuru County.

I join the nation in mourning with you. No parent should have to bury their children whose future had only just begun. May the souls of the young girls rest in peace, and may strength, healing, and justice prevail for every affected family.

I call upon the relevant government agencies to move with speed and investigate the cause of the fire and put in measures to avert such catastrophies in the future.

Congratulations, Rev. Fr. John Mbua Mwandi, on your appointment by Pope Leo XIV as the new Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui.

Bishop-elect Mwandi, who comes from Thitani Location in Mwingi West Constituency, served in different church roles since he became a priest in 2001. He was previously the parish priest of Mulutu Parish in Kitui County and succeeds Bishop Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela following his appointment as Coadjutor Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Machakos earlier this year.
