What started as a vision is now a movement.
On April 27, at KMTC Mombasa, President’s Award participants took a bold stand against a growing but often overlooked crisis, gambling addiction. Beneath its guise as harmless recreation lies a harsh reality for many young people: dependency, financial strain, and mental health challenges.
With alarming reports pointing to the loss of young lives linked to gambling, the call to act has never been more urgent.
Through this flagship project, our participants are doing more than fulfilling the Service component of the Award; they are leading change where it matters most. By confronting a real issue within their community, they are embodying the true spirit of the Award: purposeful leadership, resilience, and impact.
The launch at KMTC Mombasa brought together powerful voices and perspectives, from lived experiences shared through moving testimonies to insightful remarks led by KMTC Mombasa Principal Dr. Jacinta Mukonzo, PA-K Mombasa Regional Officer representing the CEO, Christine Chacha, Dr. Jonathan Wepukhulu, Dr. Mbarawali, Ms. Lucy Kuria, representing the KMTC CEO, and Prof. Jostinah Mwang’ombe.
This is more than a project. It is a statement that young people are ready to lead, speak up, and shape a better future.

In an epic 4-day journey, Award participants from Kamwenja Teachers College-Nyeri, proudly led by the unstoppable Award leader Esther Mureke-Kuria, OGW, triumphed in their 4th President’s Award Gold Expedition by conquering the Vuria Hills in Taita Taveta County.
The participants reached a height of 2228m on the hill, which is Kenya’s highest peak in the Coastal region. This demanding challenge forges robust teamwork, resilience, and leadership in our young people
It pushed them beyond their limits while teaching them important skills in navigation, endurance, and environmental stewardship. The participants came out stronger, more confident, and ready to inspire the next generation.
