🌿 Sunday KIDS’ Nook Reflections
Your Child Is More Than Their Marks!
The report card arrives, and suddenly everyone has questions.
How did you perform?
What did you score?
Who came first?
What did your friend’s child get?
And somewhere between the grades, rankings and comparisons, we can forget that we’re raising children, not managing quarterly earnings.
Here’s a little reminder for this Sunday:
Your child is more than their marks.
Of course, education matters. We want our children to learn, grow, develop their abilities and discover what they’re capable of achieving.
But learning isn’t always a straight line.
One child understands fractions immediately but struggles to put their feelings into words. Another writes beautiful stories but needs extra help with mathematics. One thrives in a classroom; another needs a little more time, encouragement or a different approach.
Children develop at different paces, and a single result cannot tell us everything we need to know about their progress.
So, when the results aren’t what you hoped for, pause before the lecture.
Ask what they found difficult. Listen to what they tell you. Work together on what needs improvement.
And when they do well, celebrate the achievement without making perfection the expectation.
Because our children need to know that we care about their progress, not just their performance.
They need room to make mistakes, ask for help and try again without wondering whether we’ve become less proud of them.
Let the report card inform the conversation, not define the child.
This Sunday, celebrate the progress that doesn’t always make it onto paper.
