NuPEA was privileged to participate in the Broadcast Convention – East Africa 2026, a regional forum that brought together key players in broadcasting, digital media, and emerging technologies to discuss the future of the industry in the digital era.
We were honored to host Hon. Stephen Isaboke, PS State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, at the NuPEA exhibition stand where he engaged the team on the progress of Kenya’s Nuclear Power Programme and its role in supporting the country’s sustainable energy future.
During the convention, NuPEA CEO Justus Wabuyabo delivered a presentation on “Powering the Future: Sustainable Energy Infrastructure for AI, Cloud, and Next Generation Broadcasting in Africa,” emphasizing the importance of reliable and sustainable energy in driving Africa’s digital transformation and Kenya’s vision for affordable and dependable electricity generation through nuclear power. ^I.N

The Nuclear Power and Energy Agency in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency, convened a high-level stakeholder consultative meeting chaired by IAEA Programme Management Officer, Amal Elrafaei, to discuss strategic priorities under the Country Programme Framework (CPF) 2023-2027.
The meeting reviewed previous IAEA Technical Cooperation Projects (TCPs) and explored priority areas for the upcoming CPF cycle, aligned with Kenya’s Vision 2030 development agenda. The CPF guides technical cooperation between Kenya and the IAEA, focusing on the application of nuclear science and technology (NST) to support socio-economic development, innovation, capacity building, and sustainable growth.
The forum brought together representatives from key national institutions including Kenya Bureau of Standards, Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital, Kenyatta University, Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Chuka University, University of Eldoret, Regional Centre on Groundwater Resources Education, Training and Research, and Kenya Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Eradication Council.^ I.N

A significant milestone for Kenya's energy future!
Today, the Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, Hon. J. Opiyo Wandayi, officially signed a landmark MoU with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi to integrate nuclear energy into our national grid.
The ceremony was witnessed by NuPEA CEO Justus Wabuyabo, PS Energy Alex Wachira, and PS Shaukat Abdulrazak (Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary), alongside other senior government officials.
This partnership accelerates our journey toward clean, reliable baseload power and the deployment of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).^I.N
