The World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM), developed the Basic Emergency Care (BEC) course for frontline providers who manage acute life-threatening conditions with limited resources. This course introduces a systematic approach to managing acute, potentially life-threatening conditions even before a diagnosis is known. BEC is based on the clinical recommendations of the WHO IMAI District Clinician Manual, WHO Pocket Book of Hospital Care for Children, WHO Emergency Triage Assessment and Treatment (ETAT) and WHO Integrated Management of Pregnancy and Childbirth. It includes modules on the ABCDE and SAMPLE history approach, trauma, difficulty in breathing, shock, and altered mental status. The practical skills section covers the essential time-sensitive interventions for these key acute presentations.
EMTs from Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Turkana, Narok, Lamu, Kilifi and Kiambu Counties took part in a Basic Emergency Care (BEC) course supported by Malteser International - Hilfe weltweit. It was a great opportunity to unlearn, learn and relearn, network and reconnect. The teamwork and gelling with the Faculty was a refreshing experience with renewed respected across cadres.

(Nairobi, 27th November 2025) – (KCEMT) was proud to participate as a core responder in the high-profile launch of Kenya's CBRN National Action Plan, held at the Administration Police Training College.
The event, a significant milestone for national security, featured a realistic simulation of a chemical incident emergency response. KCEMT's involvement was critical in demonstrating the specialized capabilities and coordinated response required to manage such high-threat scenarios effectively.
As a key strategic partner recognized by the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration, KCEMT worked alongside other first responders to showcase decontamination procedures, victim triage, and hazard mitigation in a simulated chemical release. This practical demonstration highlighted Kenya's growing preparedness to counter CBRN threats and protect its citizens.
The launch of the National Action Plan, coordinated by the Government Chemist as the National Focal Point, strengthens the national framework for CBRN risk mitigation. KCEMT's integral role in this event underscores our team's vital position within Kenya's security and emergency response architecture.
KCEMT remains committed to advancing its expertise and collaborating with national and international partners to build a safer, more resilient Kenya. Malteser International - Hilfe weltweit
