SH100M PROJECTS TAKE OFF IN BUSIA MUNICIPALITY

Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP) projects aimed at improving Busia Municipality infrastructure started on Thursday with upgrading of the 0.6 kilometeres Amukura House-Water-Forest โ€“ Jua Kali-YMCA junction road to bitumen standards.
Chief Officer for Lands and Urban Development Maurice Odundo said the road will have storm water drainage and walk ways on both sides, adding that they want to improve Busia town to required standards. โ€œThe contractor will also construct storm water drainage, cabro-blocks and walk ways,โ€ he said .
The second tender whose contract agreement was signed on Thursday between Go-Solar Systems Ltd and the Municipality of Busia entails installation of five (30m) high mast security lights with 300 metre radius in designated places. The contractor will also install fixed waste collections bins and non-motorized road signs.
The Chief Officer signed a contract agreement on behalf of Busia Municipality, while Jacob Kibe signed on behalf of Go-Solar Systems in the presence of County Legal Officer Egesa Wambura.
Witnesses included Busia Municipality Manager Ken Nabulindo and the project coordinator John Otwani. Odundo said the project will be completed by end of June.
He also said the third project will involve the supply and delivery of two tractors with skip bin trailers and attachments. These projects will cost approximately 100million.
The Chief Officer however appealed to county residents to cooperate and keep the town clean, adding that the mast lights will make Busia a 24-hour economy.
Busia Municipality was gazetted and formally granted a charter by Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong on 1st January 2018. Subsequently, the Municipality received Sh101m from the World Bank through KUSP. Second disbursement will be in June this year.
