The department opened in 1964 with 17 students in first year, 20 in second year and only 7 in third year. It offers BSc., M.Sc. Prof. A.V Otieno. R. J. Akello

since then the department continued to grow with assistance from USAID, UNESCO, NORAD, GERMAN COMMODITY AID, BRITISH COUNCIL and The Government of Kenya among others. The department occupies three floors of the American Wing Building on Harry Thuku Road off University Way .The Chairman, who deals with all administration and academic matters in the department, heads the department of Electrical and

Nairobi Innovation Week is now on its 3rd year. Its bigger and better. The
3rd edition will be held on March 6th to 10th 2017 at the University
Towers and the Great Court. The event will be graced by senior government
officials as well as executives from several private sector and
development organizations. There will be several international
participants too.

Here are some of the activities you can expect during the week-long
celebration:
1. Side-events in form of Hackathons, Workshops, Seminars and Bootcamps.

2. Official opening on 8th March 2017

3. More than 100 exhibitors of a variety of very interesting innovations

4. Panel Discussions at the University towers on March, Wednesday 8th
and Thursday 9th

5. Grand concert by musicians and creative artists

CLOSURE OF PLAYING GROUNDS EFFECTIVE 24TH AUGUST – 4TH SEPTEMBER 2016

In order to facilitate the ongoing preparations for the 55th Graduation
ceremony, the Estates Manager has instructed that we close the main campus
playing grounds effective 24th August, 2016 to 4th September 2016.

To facilitate the ongoing students’ evening training without interruption,
the University Management will provide two buses to ferry players to both
Lower Kabete and Kenya Science Campuses for this period beginning 4.30.p.m
in all days. The buses will be stationed below the Main Campus swimming
pool.

COLLEGES OF AGRICULTURE & VETERINARY SCIENCES, BIOLOGICAL & PHYSICAL SCIENCES, ARCHITECTURE & ENGINEERING AND EDUCATION & EXTERNAL STUDIES
The University of Nairobi wishes to inform all students from the above four Colleges who qualified for the award of various degrees and diplomas at the end of last academic year (2015/2016) and members of the public, that the 55th Graduation Ceremony will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016 commencing at 8.00 a.m. at the Chancellor’s Court next to Central Catering Unit, Main Campus. The following is pertinent information:
CLEARANCE OF FEES
Only those who will have completed paying the fees due to the University by Friday August 19, 2016 will be allowed to graduate.
GRADUATION/CONVOCATION FEE
Each Graduand must obtain a clearance certificate from the relevant College Registrar upon clearance with the respective Department/Faculty/Institute/School, Library, Halls of Residence and Games Department and pay a compulsory Graduation/Convocation fee of Kshs. 1,000/=.
HIRE OR PURCHASE OF ACADEMIC DRESS
The academic attire will be available for hire between Monday, August 22, 2016 to Thursday, September 1, 2016 from the respective College Registrars at a non-refundable fee of Kshs. 3,000/=. Those intending to purchase the dress should contact the Deputy Registrar, Examinations (Administration), Central Examinations Centre, Chiromo Campus for details. The hired Academic dress must be returned to the respective offices by Friday, September 16, 2016 to avoid being surcharged.
REHEARSAL
The rehearsal is an integral part of the Graduation Ceremony. All Graduands intending to participate in the ceremony must attend the rehearsal on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 10.00 a.m. at the Chancellor’s Court next to the Central Catering Unit.
INVITATION CARDS
While hiring or purchasing the Academic Dress, each graduand will be given two invitation cards for two guests. Persons without invitation cards will not be allowed into the Chancellor’s Court on the Graduation Day.
Children are not allowed.
PUNCTUALITY
Graduands and invited guests are advised to arrive early on the Graduation day and be seated by 7.00 a.m.

A Course on Monitoring and Evaluation of Population, Health and Development Programs (August 2016 Intake)

The Population Studies and Research Institute (PSRI) invites applications for August 2016 admissions for the above course. This is a two-week course that is aimed at equipping program and project managers/officers, planners, and researchers in the fields of population, Health and development with monitoring and evaluation skills. The overall goal of the course is to contribute to the improvement of the management of population, Health and development programs/projects in the country and elsewhere and to the development of national experts in monitoring and evaluation. The course targets personnel from government, national, regional and international agencies, currently implementing and/or supporting population, health and development programs.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENT
The potential applicant will have at least a university degree from a recognised university or a diploma and other relevant qualifications plus at least three years of relevant work experience. The applicant should be proficient in English. Having some analytical skills, computer and data systems knowledge would be an added advantage.

COURSE DURATION
The course is full time and will be covered in two weeks. The dates will be 1st – 12th August 2016.


COURSE CONTENT
The course is structured into the following main modules. Overview of M & E, M&E Concepts, M&E Plan and development, Frameworks, Indicators, Data Sources and Quality, Data analysis and Interpretation, Planning for Evaluation, and M&E information use in decision making among others. The main output is a draft M&E Plan.

TUTION FEES:
The tuition fees for the course will be Ksh. 60, 000/=. This amount does not cover travel, accommodation and living expenses. Teas will be provided during the course sessions. The tuition fees will also cover transportation for a field visit. The training venue will be at the Main Campus, University of Nairobi, Kenya.
